VIDEO Xscape to reunite for 2017 Essence Fest! PLUS a docuseries, biopic & new music

XSCAPE 2017

Fans of ’90s R&B supergroup Xscape have sooooo many reasons to celebrate as group members Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, and sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott have announced they have numerous projects in the works, including their first live performance together in nearly two decades!

“People have been asking me for years when is @officialxscape getting back together & performing,” Kandi wrote on Facebook Wednesday. “Well it’s happening! Xscape is reuniting and it’s all going down at #EssenceFestNola this summer! Head over to http://www.essence.com/festival-2017 to get your tickets! Spread the word!”

Kandi’s message was accompanied by snippets from this Essence video clip of the ladies together looking and sounding as great as ever!

Xscape will close out the three-day Essence Fest in New Orleans on July 2, joining a blockbuster festival lineup that includes Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Solange Knowles, Jill Scott, and Diana Ross!

In addition to the reunion performance at Essence Fest, fans can also look forward to a biopic and a docuseries — both of which are being produced by Love & Hip Hop creator Mona Scott-Young’s Monami Entertainment.

The ladies spoke with Essence about their past, present, and future — including Tiny talking about burying the hatchet with Kandi:

The issue between Kandi and I came after the group had already broken up so, it had nothing to do with the split. Once she and I got a chance to finally sit down as women to squash any beef that we had with one another, we realized continuing our legacy was bigger and more important than any problems we went through. As adults and as businesswomen, we just put everything to the side to pick up the pieces and said we were gonna do this, do it right, do it for ourselves and for our families.

XSCAPE Reunited

“The docuseries is going to show us coming back together to make history again,” Tiny tells Essence. “You’ll get to see the process of us getting back in the lab and learning each other all over again as adults. Even though we’ve been friends since we were teenagers, we’re all grown now so, it’s about learning each other’s habits and ways of thinking today. Plus, figuring out the music and choreography.”

The Xscape biopic is actually one of two currently in production. It was previously announced that TV One was working on an unauthorized Xscape biopic, which did not sit well with the ladies. “We feel the recent announcement of an unauthorized biopic on our lives is disrespectful and disappointing,” the group said in a statement earlier this month. “We are not, in any way, participating in that project and it will never ‘represent’ our true story.”

Obviously the biggest question is whether or not Xscape will be recording any new songs together. The answer is YES! “Next year will be 25 years since we released our first number one single, ‘Just Kickin’ It,’ Tiny says. “So, we’re doing our biopic and within the biopic, we’ll be doing original music. Not a whole album but, you’ll be able to get some new songs.”

We cannot wait!

Until then, let’s all get to Just Kickin’ It!
