Catelynn Baltierra responds to sonogramgate, says it was ‘my way of messing with people’

Catelynn Baltierra Instagram sonogram joke

Earlier this week Teen Mom OG star Catelynn Lowell posted a sonogram photo on Instagram that included a cartoon baby and the caption “Proud to announce a new baby Baltierra.” She later revealed that the picture was a joke, but a lot of her followers — especially those women having difficulty conceiving — were not amused.

Catelynn later sat down with People for an interview in which she explained her motivation for posting the joke sonogram:

“I posted it because, like, people don’t see what I see on Twitter all the time,” Catelynn says in the clip. “People kept asking and saying, ‘Oh, she’s pregnant. She’s definitely pregnant.’ If you see the picture that I posted, it’s a fake baby in a uterus picture.”

Here’s the original Instagram post:

Catelynn continues her explanation: “For me, it’s my way of messing with people and be like, ‘Oh, look! You’re all right again!’ And no. You’re really not.”

Catelynn was asked about how much she was surprised by the negative reactions, especially from those women having difficulties conceiving their own children. “If I did offend anybody that struggles with that, I apologize and I can say that I am sorry,” she admits. “I am though, because some girls and women do struggle with it and can’t have babies. Sorry if I offended anybody,” Catelynn continues. “That’s not what I meant to do at all.”

So does she regret posting the sonogram? “No,” Catelynn says flatly.

Catelynn’s Teen Mom OG co-star Amber Portwood agrees. “If you don’t mean it a certain way, you shouldn’t have to sit there and say you’re sorry,” Amber says of the hahanogram.

So no baby for now — what about in the future? “To all the people who are freaking out because they want me and Tyler to have more babies, we will one day,” Catelynn reveals. She adds that she is “definitely still on birth control” but then reveals “I’m definitely having the urges because now my daughter just started preschool and, you know, so she’s not a baby any more. I think that’s natural. But not yet.”

The People reporter presses Catelynn on an estimate on when she and Tyler will have another baby. “Probably a year,” Catelynn says.
