Cast reacts to Duck Dynasty final season announcement

Prior to the Duck Dynasty Season 11 premiere on Wednesday night, A&E aired a video in which the Robertson family announced that this will be the last season of the show, which still holds the record for the highest rated reality series in cable television history.

Here’s the video:

“We’ve got an unbelievable announcement for ya’ll!” fan favorite Uncle Si Robertson says in the clip. Jase then reveals “This will be our final season.”

“After five years, 130 episodes and one of the biggest hits in the history of cable, the Robertson family and A&E jointly decided that Duck Dynasty, the series, will come to an end after this season,” the network said in a statement.

From USA Today:

The statement says Duck Dynasty (Wednesday, 9 ET/PT) will end after the current season. New episodes will run through January 18, resuming March 1 with seven more episodes, including the finale on April 12. Although that will be the end of the series, A&E says a series of holiday specials will follow.

We’ve been covering Duck Dynasty since the very first season, and it has been a fun (and at times bumpy) ride! Of course, some of the funnest moments we had was with Uncle Si — whether it was the Jib Jab video of him performing Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” surfing in Hawaii, or throwback photos of him as a high school football player. As I look back, it’s more like Uncle ***SIGH*** now that it’s all coming to an end. (Although Uncle Si does have his own series now title Going Si-ral, which airs after Duck Dynasty.)

Anyways, I’d like to send a huge congratulations to the entire Robertson family for creating a cultural phenomenon almost overnight! Despite some actions and statements by some family members that I cannot agree with, I have to give them credit for having such huge success in a genre of television that usually requires a lot of unsavoryness and non-family-friendly antics — all with PG-rated charisma, individuality, and a wonderful sense of humor.

I won’t have the last words here, however. I will leave that to the members of the Robertson family, who shared their thoughts on this being the last season of Duck Dynasty on social media:

We are so thankful to every single one of you who have watched us, loved us, cheered us on, prayed for our family, and supported us along the way! I promise you it has been noticed and we are forever grateful! We have a fun final season ahead of us so stick with us! We're not done yet ?In honor of our announcement last night that this will be our final season of @duckdynastyae here's a little #tbt of our photo shoots throughout the years for the show. Can't believe it's been 5 years since we took that pic standing in the duck pond with the guys in cut off tuxes and the girls in gowns ?we had no idea at that time what was about the happen. We stood there smiling and wondering if people would actually watch our crazy family. Thank you again for following along on our journey! Our kids have grown up in front of you and we are thankful for really awesome home movies ?It's been such a fun ride!
