Girls Instagram world cruise, get caught smuggling cocaine worth millions

Candaian cocaine cruise girls arrested in Australia Instagram photos

In what could easily be the script for a new Netflix series titled YOLO Is The New Black, two young women documented their lavish 68-day world cruise on Instagram with a series of fun photos from exotic locations in Europe, North America, Central America, South America, and French Polynesia — all before being busted by Australian Border Force with million of dollars worth of cocaine in their suitcases.

22-year-old Melina Roberge and 28-year-old Isabelle Lagacé were arrested on Sunday along with 63-year-old André Tamine when police found 95 kilograms of cocaine in their luggage after their ship, the MS Sea Princess, arrived in Sydney. According to Australian Border Force commander Tim Fitzgerald, 35 kilograms of cocaine were found in the cabin shared by Melina and Isabella, while 60 kilograms of the drug were found in Andre’s luggage in a separate cabin. The total value of the drugs confiscated is estimated to me more than $23 million US dollars. It is still unknown how or if André and the young women are connected.

From the official press release issued by The Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection:

On Sunday 28 August, ABF officers boarded the vessel when it berthed in Sydney Harbour, and with the assistance of detector dogs, searched a number of passenger cabins on the ship. During this search, approximately 95 kilograms of cocaine was located, packed in suitcases.

AFP officers then arrested three Canadian nationals, a 63-year-old man, a 28-year-old woman and a 23-year old woman.

All three will face Sydney Central Local court today (Monday 29 August), charged with importing a commercial quantity of cocaine.

The maximum penalty for this offence is life imprisonment.

As I mentioned above, Melina and Isabella, who are both from Quebec, documented their travels over the last 10 weeks on Instagram, including stops in Colombia, Peru and other locations known for cocaine production. As you might imagine, given the end result of their trip, some of the photos and captions take on a slightly different meaning than they did when they were initially posted.

“Traveling is one thing … But traveling with an open mind, ready to taste everything, see everything, learn everything and get yourself out of your comfort zone .. Is probably the best therapy and lesson ever,” Melina captioned one photo from South America. “I used to be afraid to get out of my little town and now I feel like I don’t want to see that little town anymore cause it’s beautiful out there and it’s sooo worth it • 💯🌍”

On a couple of photos of herself getting a tattoo in French Polynesia, Melina explained what her ink meant: “➰ : means the protection of the traveler 🌐” She captioned another photo while getting the tattoo: “French Polynesia got us like … 💉🌎 #dumbanddumber”

Meanwhile, Isabella captioned one of her photos from Colombia by writing: “We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us. #TravelIsLife #Freedom ❤️”

Below is a complete timeline of photos of the cruise from both Melina and Isabella, but before I started, I wanted to share this next picture posted by Isabella prior to embarking on their trip in which she is thrilled to have gotten a Felony case for her phone:

Great choices ladies. Don’t come back to Canada. We do not want you.

    • Jessica

They are facing life in prison possibly so chances are they won’t be back.

      • twelfthnight

But where, though? I don’t want to be the taxpayer who gets to foot their life in prison bills. Drop them on an island somewhere and let them rot.

        • CatAtonic99

I was wondering the same thing. Compared to the U.S. Canada seems rather relaxed in some of their sentencing. I have to wonder how strict Australia is? It’d be ironic for them if they faced extremely tough and miserable sentencing in one of the countries they were smuggling/trafficking to or from. I just imagine them having to sleep on cold concrete or dirt floors, awful food (if any), dirty ass water…. EXPERIENCE THE WORLD AND SAFE TRAVELS ladies!

    • CatAtonic99

You mean there’s an opening?! I always wanted to visit Canada.

  • Chu ♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥

One of these women look like Jenelle Evans 😂

    • Chinelle’s Eyebrows

Right. A less hideous looking Chinelle. I was thinking the same thing but didn’t post it

    • Courtney

I said below that one of the girls reminded me of Melissa Gorga from RHNJ. Now I see Jenelle too! 😉

  • ling

Smh . Real smart ladies lol

  • bree7702

Clearly they’very never watched “Locked Up Abroad”.

  • Charla

Some drug smugglers probably paid for their cruise in order for these two dummies to transport the drugs to the different ports. Welp, at least they got to see exotic places..? Lol

  • Thoughts

Lmao this gonna be a lifetime movie I just know it

  • Jen

“Protection of the traveler”- bwhahahahaha! Didn’t work too well for ya, Honey.

  • Pattipandi

I mean, honestly…ya just throw 2 giant bags of coke so nonchalantly in ur suitcase? They didn’t even try using a thick layer of petroleum jelly along with many layers of binding to MAYBE deter a drug sniffing k-9? Amatuer mules.

    • FarrahsCryFace

You’ve either watched a lot of movies or you have experience lol

      • Pattipandi

Haha! It’s just the lack of effort for such a huge risk.
My theory is that at least the older girl has done it before and got away with it and thought this time would be small potatoes.
Unless they were all just coked up out of their minds and just got sloppy.
It’s a great true story though, I enjoyed looking at their pics and how great it must be to live such a lavish life and then being detained on another country. Of course their case Is going to blame it all on the 60 something random guy who forced them against their will to transport millions of dollars worth of drugs.
        It’s going to be good.

        • cyndyt

Considering the 60 something guy’s idenity is not revealed, I wonder if he is actually working for the cops.

          • Pattipandi

            That is a great point.

          • Mic

Look again first and last name listed.

      • CatAtonic99

I think I need to give you a point just for your username.

        • FarrahsCryFace

          Thank you!

          • CatAtonic99

I just pictured that “Thank you! ” being said in Farrah’s fake-ass, annoying, nasal voice. :/

    • CatAtonic99

I bet they thought they were “too pretty” to get caught.
If you’re talking about binding the drugs to their bodies that wouldn’t be an option because (in obnoxiously snotty girl voice) “it would make them look Faaat!” and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t chance that.

If nothing else, they’re lucky they were able to view some beautiful places and experience things some of us could only dream about. Just to be clear- it’s never been MY desire to smuggle cocaine and face/serve prison time.

      • Pattipandi

That’s exactly what they thought. Plus the amount of money it would cost the two of them to travel for as long as they did they got it from somewhere…

  • cookie

At least they enjoyed the last few days of their free lives, too bad they ruined the rest.

  • Brittany

They really got to “live every day as though it’s [their] last.” 😂

  • Courtney

One of the girls reminds me of Melissa Gorga from RHNJ. (Looks wise) Random, I know, but just had to say. 😉

  • Courtney

Does a does anyone know if that’s normal to send drug sniffing dogs to search passenger cabins on cruise ships? Just wondering because I’ve never heard that. Wonder if they were tipped off or if this is common?

    • Manchester

Yeah. When I read that, I was like, “wait, what? Drug dogs on a cruise ship? Is that a common thing?”
And, it says that a number of passengers were searched. All three of them being “randomly” searched is near impossible.

    • Erica B.

They could definitely have been tipped off but it could also be random checks because of the ports they stop at. They have more balls than brains thats for sure.

    • Pattipandi

When I was 17 I was going on a cruise with my family and we took a limo to the city and I remember entering what I guess is the “drop off” zone to where the boat was and we did have a police officer look in the car and have his dog quickly sniff half way in and go out. We’re middle class nobodys so it must happen to anyone even before entering a ship. This was in 1999.

  • MCM

HAHAHAHA. I hope they enjoyed it, their life is essentially over! LMMFAO!!!!

    • Erica B.

HAHA, I hope so, that’s what the dumb bxtxhes get!

  • Evan Dean Snow

95 kilos = $23 million? The person who came up with that number has been getting burned.
Top dollar would be about $1,662,500.00. Where are you getting the other $21,337,500.00?

    • Cunn E. Lingus

      Cunn E. Lingus

    • Cunn E. Lingus

IKR!? I thought the same thing. 95 keys@23mil works out to $242,105/kilo. Back in the 80’s we were scoring keys for bet.12&13k/kilo … Man, process have sure gone up …

      • Evan Dean Snow

since the 80’s cocaine has been affected by many factors. While it remains readily available in S. America, the demand from N. America has dropped due to cheaper meth which does not need to be smuggled. Balance the lower demand with fewer importers of cocaine into the USA and you see somewhat of a balance in the market. One kilo can fetch $17,500.00, but a person buying quantity would expect to pay about half that. Still a significant margin, but not anywhere the $240.00 per gram quoted in the article. Even a person buying a single gram wouldn’t pay $240. More likely they’d pay $175 and get 3.5 grams (8-ball)
        #EndTheDrugWar

        • CatAtonic99

I watch quite a bit of Drugs Inc. and was surprised to hear that in at least one area they highlighted the demand for cocaine had gone down even more since the Molly boom. I also think they said because of this the cost of cocaine had gone down.

It’s kind of crazy how different the value/cost of every substance can be depending on location and supply & demand. Inflation man!

Maybe they’re thinking in “Wall Street” or “Silicon Valley” value. Hehe

      • Joanne Seguin

it’s worth more in Australia because it’s very difficult to get it there!

  • okaragozian

Possible setup. Nobody in their right minds travels with that kind of weight in their own personal space. Anybody involved in that type of smuggling would not keep the stuff anywhere near where it can be traced to them. If not a setup, then these idiots have embarked on a fool’s errand and deserve all they’ve got coming to them. This is what happens to all DIY types who think they are smart enough to do things themselves and then get fouled up along the way. Regarding the women/girls – hot – and the comment that no one knows the connection between these beautiful women and the 63 year old guy is ludicrous on the face of it. Any heterosexual guy would do anything possible to get together on a world cruise with 2 beautiful women. Apparently this 63 year old guy just took things a bit too far by getting involved with drugs. People always get business mixed up with pleasure – sloppy.

    • CatAtonic99

As I was reading your comment I started thinking about how the guy might’ve been set up by the ladies, taking into account the amount of cocaine he had in his possession compared to the girls.
I suppose either party could be manipulated when offered those kind of travel accommodations and pay-out, whether it be drugs, money or both.

  • Joanne Seguin

bummer, all the pics r gone! wanted to check that out! Wow! crazy! Life in jail! High price to pay!
