What better time for an adorable Alaska: The Last Frontier update than the day before the season finale? To the delight of viewers across the country, last week’s episode featured the birth of Eve and Eivin’s baby, Sparrow Rose–and this week we got more photos of the newborn, thanks to the powers of social media!
This week’s installment is entitled “Do Or Die,” which is a fitting enough name for an episode that takes place just as winter is about to set in. Things are warmer than usual at the Kilcher home, though, thanks to the heartwarming development that was Eve Kilcher giving birth to little Sparrow Rose. The show’s official accounts quickly shared the first photo of the little one:
However, Charlotte Kilcher also took to Twitter, in advance of the episode’s airing, to share a second, even-more-adorable snapshop of the two youngest Kilchers in each other’s arms!

If fan reaction on social media is any indication, the show’s most recent plot development is also one of its best-received in years 😉 The new baby reminded us of a throwback tweet, also from Charlotte, in which she prepares for a different sort of kid from Eivins and Eve:

All is not fun and games (and snuggles) up Alaska way, though. Winter is indeed coming, which means that it’s time for the family to finish laying in everything it will need to get through. But the last days before the freeze can lead to some lapses in judgment–which is the theme of the brief, but dramatic preview trailer from Discovery:

It’s harrowing stuff–but, then, when are the Kilchers not facing some sort of overwhelming challenge from mother nature?
Fans of the show need not fear its coming hiatus. There’ll be at least one more Alaska: The Last Frontier update before too long; while this Sunday’s episode is the Season Five finale, on the following Sunday, January 24th, Discovery plans to air its usual season-ending clip show retrospective-tacular, featuring assorted members of the Kilcher family commenting on the mishaps and delights of the year gone by.
Alaska: The Last Frontier airs Sundays at 9 PM EST on Discovery.
