Did you guys know that Miley Cyrus likes to change outfits? It’s true! And, since last night she was the host of the MTV Video Music Awards shindig out in Los Angeles California, she took the opportunity to razzle-dazzle all of us with a bevy of different, Miley Cyrus VMA-specific outfits. Though “costumes” might be a more appropriate word, and “fashion statements from the distant future” could also work. You can see a collection of Miley Cyrus’ VMA outfits above, courtesy of Miley herself–she shared the collage via Instagram just a short while ago. Here’s a closer look at a few of the more intriguing selections:

Miley Cyrus wore the above outfit–complete with full pants!–for the red carpet pre-VMA fashion showdown. It’s actually fairly typical Miley, by this point: check for the tongue out, for the revealing top (though calling it a top is also a bit of a stretch), and for the tactful nipple coverage. Nipple coverage wouldn’t be a problem until much later in the show.

…which subtly reinforced the message of “Dooo It!,” the song Cyrus premiered at the end of the show. By MTV’s own count, there are 35 F-bombs in the track, which features lines such as “Yeah I smoke pot / Yeah I love peace / But I don’t give a f*ck / I ain’t no hippie.” It wasn’t immediately clear if the song was supposed to be anti-hippie; Miley Cyrus is well-known for sending mixed messages on this point. What was clear, though, was that one of Miley Cyrus’ VMA looks was a dress with balloons affixed to it–the dress itself looked to be made out of the same material that constituted the balloons–and no one batted an eyelash. Just Miley bein’ Miley.

This outfit is what Miley Cyrus wore to actually perform “Dooo It” at the end of the show. You could argue that it looks like she tore it in a fight with a court jester, stole after winning the fight, and wore it anyway…except, again, does the outfit really look that unusual, given the many formerly outlandish costumes of Miley Cyrus at the VMAs (and beyond)? At this point, the strangest thing she could do is wear a white lace wedding dress, or a shoulder-padded business suit.

Speaking of clothing–one of the more talked-about moments of the evening came just before Miley’s show-closer, when the VMA feed cut to her standing behind a curtain, hosting in the middle of a costume change. As Miley turned to the camera, the feed caught a glimpse of her exposed breast. Miley continued without skipping a beat: “What’s that,” she said aloud, responding to her own audio feed from the producers; “my t*t’s out?”

In fact, between the Miley Cyrus VMA nip slip, the debut of her new song, and the fact that she announced the free release of her brand new album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, at the very end of the show, you could make a solid argument that Miley Cyrus won the night. Sure, Kanye West announced a 2020 presidential run while high, and Taylor Swift won a bunch of things, and Nicki Minaj threw shade at Miley (potentially), but, by the end of the night, pretty much all anyone was talking about was Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance.

What did you, the viewers at home, think?
