Tracy Morgan to host Saturday Night Live next season

Tracy Morgan on Saturday Night Live

For the first time since suffering critical injuries during a fatal car accident in June 2014, Tracy Morgan will return to the national stage–he’s slated to host Saturday Night Live.

NBC made the exciting announcement today, and shared details about who will host the first three episodes of the upcoming season:

A trio of star-studded hosts will kick off SNL’s 41st season when the show premieres on October 3. First up, Miley Cyrus hosts the season premiere, returning for her third time as host. The following week, on October 10, Amy Schumer will make her hosting debut. On October 17, former cast member Tracy Morgan returns to host for the second time. Musical guests for all three shows will be announced at a later date.

Tracy suffered a traumatic brain injury in the accident; his good friend James McNair was killed. He did not attend the SNL 40 event in February, and, as recently as June, said he wasn’t sure when he would be ready to perform again.

Still, he was determined. “I can’t wait to get back,” he told Matt Lauer. “But right now my goal is just to heal and get better ’cause I’m not 100 percent yet. And when I’m there you’ll know it. I’ll get back to making you laugh.”

We can’t wait, Tracy!
