VIDEO Dave Grohl rocks out on throne during 4th of July concert

Grohl throne

Dave Grohl recently broke his leg when he fell off the stage during a Foo Fighters’ concert at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, out Sweden way. He missed a couple of songs, and then came back to finish the show, because Dave Grohl is a rock and roll champion. The Foos, though, had to cancel a slew of European dates, including headlining sets at major festivals. There was some speculation (and a lot of worry) that the band might have to cancel some or all of its U.S. run, which was scheduled to begin on the 4th of July.

But: rock and roll champion. The Foo Fighters did indeed kick off their North American tour with last night’s show at RFK stadium in the District of Columbia. They were able to do it despite the purple-casted state of their frontman, who reminded everyone that, by order of his doctors, he had to keep his injured leg elevated. Which was why he had a special throne made for the tour:

In case you were wondering, the Foos played a full, two-hour, 21-song set. It was both the first show of their summer tour and their official 20th anniversary blowout celebration jamboree. Among the many support acts on the daylong festival bill were Buddy Guy, Gary Clark Jr., Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, LL Cool J, RDGLDGRN, Trombone Shorty, and Trouble Funk.

Here’s footage of Dave Grohl and company making their grand entrance and playing “Everlong,” the show’s opening number:
