NeNe Leakes is saying “Bye, Felicia” to the show responsible for making her a household name. After seven seasons on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, NeNe is hanging up her peach for bigger and better opportunities.
“My contract is up and I just think this is the right time,” NeNe told People. “This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things.”
Besides starring in the super successful Bravo franchise, NeNe has been making a name for herself outside of the Housewives world for years. A few of her professional highlights include a recurring role on Glee, a starring role on Broadway, and the creation of her own clothing line.
The 47-year-old said the decision to leave the RHOA wasn’t easy. “This was definitely a hard decision for me. Me and my husband have been going back and forth on it for weeks now.”
Despite the tough choice, NeNe feels relieved to move on. “I feel a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders,” she revealed.
NeNe addressed her fans directly, saying:
This is so hard for me to type! I cry as I do so! I am so Grateful for all the love and laughs! Thank you so much to everyone that has watched and supported me over the years on this amazing platform! With lots of thoughts and prayer I’ve decided to step out on faith and not fear #nomoRHOA4me
The news of NeNe’s RHOA departure is coming after another big announcement: her collaboration with Kim K. on the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood app.
So what’s next on the docket for NeNe? Primetime TV!
“I’m actually going to be doing a new primetime television show with a big legend,” NeNe teased. “All of my fans will get to see me be really happy, witty and funny and tell all of those one liners that I always have said on Housewives.”
She begins filming on her mystery project this week.
One thing is for sure, The Real Housewives of Atlanta will never be the same!
