Schwandt Family Michigan

Baby No. 13 make 13 sons for the Schwandt family of Michigan! On Wednesday, Kateri and Jay Schwandt welcomed their latest child — and found out the baby’s sex for the first time.

“It’s a BOY,” the proud dad said on Facebook. “Now we need to choose a name! BLESSED beyond belief!”

Not only is the Schwandt family “blessed,” but they are also unusually rare: There is just a 0.025 percent chance that parents will have 13 children all of the same sex. Fortunately, that’s something everyone in the family seems to be fine with, even the extremely outnumbered Kateri.

“It doesn’t matter at this point,” she told M Live last week. “If we had a little girl, that would be neat. But I would be just as happy if we had a little boy.”

Before this week’s arrival, dad Jay said he was actually hoping for a girl — but had a gut feeling it would be another boy. He explained, “I’ve done all the boy stuff. I’d just like to experience it from the other side once.”

Although the newest addition will probably go through much of life getting accidentally called by his older brothers’ names and wearing hand-me-downs, the family said he has the distinction of being the only one with a May birthday.
