CSI canceled after 15 seasons, will end with a special finale

“I guess all good things… Must come to an end.” (Read in the dramatic voice always used before the theme song.) CBS confirmed today the 15th season of CSI will be its last.

“We actually got a little misty-eyed about this one,” CBS’ Nina Tassle said while making the announcement this morning, E! News reports.

Fortunately for longtime fans, CBS promises the Sept. 26 finale will be an “epic” 2-hour event. Original cast members William Petersen (pictured at top) and Marg Helgenberger will return for last investigation. After that, the CSI concept will live on with CSI: Cyber, which was just renewed for a second season.

CSI was among Nielsen’s Top 10 highest-rated programs for 12 seasons. Viewership has declined in recent years, but the show pulled a very respectable 8 million viewers during the last season.

The CSI finale will air on CBS on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 8/7c.
