It came as quite a surprise late last year when it was revealed that Sixth Sense and Unbreakable director M. Night Shyamalan had covertly finished shooting a brand new, low-budget horror movie titled The Visit. The news broke as it was revealed Universal Pictures had picked up worldwide distribution rights to the film, which promises to have Shyamalan return to his suspenseful roots and hopefully bail him out of a string of box office (and critical) disappointments that include The Last Airbender and After Earth.
Earlier today the first teaser poster for The Visit found its way online after a Redditor shared a photo graph of it that looks to have been taken at an AMC theater. Underneath the poster it reads, “Friday, September 11.” (See original photo below.)
The poster itself is a faux cross-stitch design that looks to have had a hard life. The stained embroidery piece reads, “GRANDMA’s RULES:” and then includes the following list:
1. Have a great time.
2. Eat as much as you want.
3. Don’t ever leave your room after 9:30 pm.
The list seems to jibe perfectly with a plot synopsis posted by Deadline:
The story centers on a young brother and sister who are sent by their parents to visit their grandparents’ farm out in Pennsylvania. Things start to go wrong when the kids discover “the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing” (apparently we’re not going to learn exactly what kind of horror movie this is until the trailer), and they must find some way to try and escape and make their way back home.
According to IMDB the cast will include Kathryn Hahn, Ed Oxenbould, Olivia DeJonge, Peter McRobbie, Benjamin Kanes, Michelle Rose Domb, Erica Lynne Marszalek, Jon Douglas Rainey, Deanna Dunagan, John Buscemi, Shelby Lackman, Brian Gildea, Shawn Gonzalez, Jorge Cordova, and more.
Shyamalan tweeted yesterday that the first trailer for The Visit should be out next week!
