Kim Richards addresses sobriety concerns

Everyone seems to be concerned about Kim Richards’ sobriety on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills this season. Cast members Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson have their doubts that the actress is staying on the wagon, but Kim says they should mind their own business.

She gained a lot of support a few years ago when she revealed she was an alcoholic, and despite the speculation of her cast members, Kim maintains that she is still clean and sober.

Lisa Rinna has been especially vocal about her concerns for Kim, and in a preview clip for next episode Lisa explains addiction hits close to home for her. Lisa’s husband Harry lost two brothers to drug addiction and alcoholism, and Harry himself had to quit drinking. She says their family’s struggle with alcoholism went back hundreds of years, and his brothers’ deaths were a wake-up call for him to break the cycle.

“Kim seems to be in some kind of trouble with her sobriety, or, at the very least, is in a very vulnerable place in her life. She is at odds with her sister Kyle, who is hesitant to go down this road again. Her best friend, Brandi, seems to see all the red flags but isn’t actively doing anything about it,” Eileen wrote in her blog.

But Kim finds it perplexing that everyone is talking and speculating about her personal issues on air. “I wish people would just stop trying to intrude in my life and ‘fix’ a problem that doesn’t exist,” Kim wrote in her blog. “Would it break their hearts terribly to know and accept that I am healthy and well? I hate to sound like a broken record, but yes, I made a mistake when I took Monty’s pain pill to relieve the chronic pain from my injuries, and yes, I am still sober and strong mentally and physically. However, that one situation did not give anyone the right to spread the rumor that I had relapsed and been drinking.”

“According to the recovery programs, a relapse is when someone preeminently abandons their recovery plan completely by choice. I didn’t do that, and these women know I didn’t, because they interacted and had spoken with me many times following the poker night, and they’ll tell you I had been and am fine,” she continued. “Their constant chatter about me honestly feels like they’re belittling all the hard work I’ve put into my recovery for the past three years. Now, this has only become a big deal because they made it a big deal.”

“And the conclusion is I’m perplexed!” she added. “Did anyone else notice that almost every single scene of this episode involved me in some way? I mean, isn’t it odd that I’m the conversation topic of Eileen and Vince’s romantic dinner out?! And that’s just ONE out of many examples in the episode. Even though Lisa Vanderpump’s surprise birthday party was such a blast, people were still talking about me. I just do not get it. It’s getting to a point where I actually feel bad for them. I would hate talking about me all the time. HAHA!”
