Drew Peterson charged in murder-for-hire plot to kill prosecuting attorney

Normally being in prison is a pretty good deterrent for committing further crimes, but former policeman Drew Peterson, who is currently serving a 38-year sentence for murdering his third wife, wasn’t going to let a silly thing like steel bars prevent him from seeking revenge on the prosecuting attorney who put him away. According to a press release by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, the 61-year-old Peterson allegedly “solicited an individual to carry out a murder-for-hire plot against Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow.”

Here is the full press release:

MADIGAN, RANDOLPH COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY CHARGE DREW PETERSON FOR SOLICITATION OF MURDER

Chicago − Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Randolph County State’s Attorney Jeremy R. Walker today filed a two-count criminal information against Drew Peterson, 61, an inmate at the Menard Correctional Center, charging him with one count of solicitation of murder for hire and one count of solicitation of murder, both Class X felonies.

The charges allege that between September 2013 and December 2014, the defendant solicited an individual to carry out a murder-for-hire plot against Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow. The defendant made an initial appearance on the charges today at the Randolph County Courthouse. A preliminary hearing is set for March 3 at 10 a.m.

The case will be jointly prosecuted by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Randolph County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The public is reminded that these are merely charges and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Prosecutor James Glasgow issued a statement about Peterson’s alleged plot to have him killed on Monday. “I have absolute faith in law enforcement and our criminal justice system to handle this case appropriately,” Glasgow said. “It is unfortunate that prosecutors sometimes must deal with allegations of this nature. However, in no way will a threat to my personal safety deter me from the important work I perform as the State’s Attorney on behalf of the citizens of Will County.”

Meanwhile, Peterson’s former defense attorney, Joel Brodsky, spoke with People about the allegations, and called out Peterson’s current attorney, Steve Greenberg. “If the current allegations against Mr. Peterson are true, in my opinion, the actions are a result of attorney Steve Greenberg’s failure to control his client, and his failure to keep him informed and focused on his legal opinions, his appeal and other post-conviction remedies,” Brodsky says.

Greenberg is currently working on an appeal for Peterson which is based in large part on accusations that Brodsky did an ineffective job representing Peterson at trial, so clearly there is some bad blood between the two lawyers. “If Drew committed the acts he is currently charged with, why would he have done so if he had confidence in his appeal?” Brodsky adds. “Drew’s alleged actions speak volumes on that issue.”

In case you missed the headlines, or the Lifetime movie Drew Peterson: Untouchable, Peterson was not only found guilty of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, but was also a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, in 2007.

I think we can start the countdown on Lifetime’s Drew Peterson movie sequel and the return of cable television’s most beloved mustachioed douchebag murderer played by Rob Lowe:
