56-year-old Baltimore attorney Lisa Swinton McLaughlin, had her 30-year dream of motherhood come true December 27th when she delivered two baby boys via cesarean section. Tragically, just seven days later she passed away from an undiagnosed bowel obstruction that she hadn’t noticed because she was still in pain from the C-section.

Her widower, Mike McLaughlin, 67, says Lisa was “just on cloud nine,” following the birth.

“That’s the happiest I’ve probably seen her in my life,” he added. “She held the babies and was able to stroke them and love them.”

The babies, Jordan and Dylan, were born prematurely, and weighed just three pounds each, but they were otherwise healthy and thriving in the neonatal unit. They both now weigh four pounds, and Mike is expecting his children to come home soon. The prospect of raising these babies alone is daunting, so Mike’s hired a nanny, and plans to move to Nebraska where his family, including an adult son, can help him care for the children.
