Lindsay Lohan contracted Chikungunya, an incurable virus transmitted by mosquitos, while vacationing in French Polynesia. The 28-year-old revealed she had the virus via Twitter Saturday, warning her millions of followers to use bug spray.

Here are some key facts about Chikungunya via WHO:

• Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes. It causes fever and severe joint pain. Other symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash.
• There is no cure for the disease. Treatment is focused on relieving the symptoms.
• The proximity of mosquito breeding sites to human habitation is a significant risk factor for Chikungunya.
• The disease occurs in Africa, Asia and the Indian subcontinent. In recent decades mosquito vectors of Chikungunya have spread to Europe and the Americas. In 2007, disease transmission was reported for the first time in a localized outbreak in north-eastern Italy.

Despite getting the virus, Lohan maintained an upbeat attitude about the whole thing as she wrote via Instagram,”In good faith with good people. I refuse to let a virus effect my peaceful vacation be safe and happy on the new year all ❤️#wildfox and a positive, healthy new year”

Lindsay flew back home to Los Angeles from her holiday getaway yesterday.
