VIDEOS President Obama takes over “The Word” segment on Colbert

66th Primetime Emmy Awards

President Obama got the best of Stephen Colbert during The Colbert Report last night. And we mean that in the most literal and figurative ways.

Obama was the announced guest on the Report, which was taping a one-off special entitled “Stephen Colbert Presents: Mr. Colbert Goes to Washington D.C. Ya Later, Legislator; Partisan is Such Sweet Sorrow: A Colbert Victory Lap” at George Washington University in Fairfax VA (just outside the D.C. area). But, since it’s the President, you can’t exactly have other guests or bits planned.

That point was made very clear during the show’s first segment. After a few minutes of joking and America-introducing by Colbert (whose famous “Better Know A District” segment became “Better Know A America”), Obama came out just as Colbert was introducing his even-more-famous “Word” segment on health care.

So, Obama, delivering the same jokes in character as Colbert, but renaming the segment “The Decree,” got to take shots at his health care plan, house Republicans, and himself. Check it:

And, the president being the President, he got an extended interview with C-Dog, during which the two touched on all manner of topics: health care, the youth vote, the question of a lame duck presidency, the nuclear launch codes, and whether Obama is “a great president, or the Greatest President.”

The full interview’s a doozy. Have a beverage handy:

What do you, the viewers at home, think? Was this a masterful performance by the Commander-in-Chief? Did he hit all of his marks? Was Colbert too deferential? Did the whole thing stink like yesterday’s diapers? Sound off with a comment and make your views known. Comment sections are like voting booths, too. Except that everybody has to crowd into the same space, there’s only one machine, and the ventilation is poor.
