What was The Little Couple’s Bill Klein’s back surgery for? How is he doing now?

In the new season of TLC’s The Little Couple, it’s Bill Klein’s turn to deal with a health problem as he undergoes surgery for a chronic back issue.

“If I don’t get it taken care of shortly, I’ll most certainly be in a wheelchair,” he said in a preview for the new season, which premieres on Tuesday.

He ultimately underwent a procedure in mid-October at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. It’s unclear what the exact operation entailed, but it was performed by Dr. James Farmer, who specializes in the treatment of spinal conditions and orthopedic trauma. Bill does have spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, a bone growth disorder that often causes abnormal curvature of the spine and may lead to permanent spinal cord damage.

Fortunately for Bill, it sounds like the surgery was a great success — and he continues to recover with a little extra help from his M.D. wife Jen Arnold.

“Wife took out my sutures this morning. 17cm of snip, ouch, snip, ouch,” he tweeted on Oct. 31. “I’m such a whiner 😉 everyone’s good at something!”

A week later, he proved again that he has a good sense of humor about it all…

On Nov. 16, he tweeted that he’s “getting better everyday” and was able to drive a car for the first time since surgery. He also seemed to be in great spirits on Good Morning America today when he and Jen talked about Speak Now For Kids.

The new season of The Little Couple premieres on TLC on Tuesday at 9/8c.
