It’s official: Katy Perry is the next Super Bowl halftime performer

The rumors started flying a month ago, but now they’re confirmed: Katy Perry will be the halftime act at Super Bowl XLIX this February.

(FYI: “XLIX” is 49, for those of you keeping score at home.)

K-Per, as she is increasingly known, is currently on tour in Australia. But that didn’t stop her from Tweeting out the news to her fans while watching last night’s matchup between the Cowboys of Dallas and the Giants of New York:

Life, indeed, K-Per. Though it’s important to remember the good times in the bad. Who doesn’t love a tasty, refreshing avocado?

As the NFL is quick to point out, the Super Bowl halftime show (technically the Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show Orgy Spectacular) is “the most-watched musical event of the year,” lip-synch category. Last year, 115 million people tuned in in America alone.

Halftime shows have been relatively tame since Janet Jackson’s Wardrobe Malfunction on February 1st, 2004. This season’s Super Bowl will thus take place on the eleven-year anniversary of the nip slip heard ’round the world; one wonders if K-Per has anything special in mind for the event? Would live girl kissing make headlines in 2015?

There’s plenty of time to speculate. Super Bowl 49 will kick off in Glendale AZ on February 1st.
