Jamie Oliver tricked his daughter into eating one of the world’s hottest peppers to discipline her

Jamie Oliver - Punished Daughter

As a chef, Jamie Oliver should know not to mess around with the Scotch Bonnet, which is one of the world’s hottest peppers. Yet, for some reason, he just admitted to using it as a cruel and unusual punishment for his 12-year-old daughter, Poppy.

“Poppy was quite disrespectful and rude to me and she pushed her luck. In my day I would have got a bit of a telling-off but you are not allowed to do that,” Jamie explained on BBC Good Food, according to The Daily Mail.

So, rather than giving her a “telling off,” Jamie came up with another way to discipline the preteen: “Five minutes later she thought I had forgotten and I hadn’t. She asked for an apple. I cut it up into several pieces and rubbed it with Scotch Bonnet and it worked a treat.”

Not surprisingly, the pepper — which is some 12 to 140 times hotter than a jalapeño — quickly started to burn the girl’s mouth.

“She ran up to mum and said, ‘This is peppery.’ I was in the corner laughing,” Jamie said. “[My wife, Jools] said to me, ‘Don’t you ever do that again.'”

Ya think?! Sure, this may not be as bad a putting a hand on the kid, but it’s still pretty poor parenting: Rather than explaining to Poppy why he was punishing her, Jamie just got down to her preteen level by playing a juvenile trick.
