Nurse accused of killing and then taking selfies with 38 “annoying” patients

An Italian nurse has been arrested in an investigation into the deaths of 38 patients. Cops say that she might have injected those under her care with poison because they or their family members were “annoying.”

The investigation and arrest came after the death of a 78-year-old patient who was determined to have died from a potassium chloride injection. Homicide may be more difficult to prove in the earlier cases, according to the New York Post.

Coworkers described 42-year-old Daniela Poggiali as a cold and polished person who would sometimes sedate patients during her shift. In addition, they believe she may have given patients sedatives to irritate those who worked after her shifts were up. They suspected Poggiali because patients under her care would inexplicably worsen and die during her shift.

Corriere reported that police found a selfie on Poggiali’s phone that she had taken featuring herself giving a thumbs up next to the body of a patient who had died only moments earlier.
