RHONJ’s Teresa and Nicole’s father Salvatore Napolitano’s criminal history includes prison sentence

Napolitano Family

Just as one couple from The Real Housewives of New Jersey is being sentenced to prison, we are learning another cast member was previously convicted of criminal charges as well.

Salvatore Napolitano, better known as Teresa and Nicole’s dad Sal, was sentenced to 15 months in prison, ordered to pay nearly $20,000 in fines, and serve three years of supervised release. So the big question is, why?

Essentially, Sal and his company ECCO Construction Inc., tried to cut corners and save money when they hired undocumented Mexican workers to remove asbestos without properly equipping the workers with safety gear. Asbestos fibers are extremely dangerous and can cause lung cancer to those exposed to the material without proper protection.

ECCO Construction Inc. was also held accountable when they were sentenced to five years probation and prohibited from working in construction projects involving asbestos.

According to the EPA, on November 9, 1999, Sal plead guilty to:

Conspiring to violate the Clean Air Act in connection with the illegal removal of asbestos-containing material during the conversion of a former Y.M.C.A. building in New Haven into an upscale apartment development in 1997. As a result of the conspiracy, untrained and undocumented workers from Mexico were used to remove asbestos from boilers, piping and floor coverings at the building. The workers were locked in the building and were not provided with equipment to protect them from inhaling asbestos fibers. As a result of this crime, asbestos fibers were released into the air at the construction site where workers and others could inhale them. Asbestos filled garbage bags were also illegally disposed of in various locations around New Haven.

Whoopsie!

After the sentence was handed down, the judge later reduced the prison time from 15 months to 6 months. However, the consequences for the conviction could have been much worse. In a press release from October of 1998, we learned Sal was facing up to 34 years in prison and fines up to $2 million dollars!

Despite the charges against him, Sal and his family have remained in tact.

Nap Family

The Napolitano family sure aren’t strangers to drama. Between Teresa’s roller coaster ride with husband Rino and the cheating allegations against him (with her own mother Santa), to Nicole’s relationship which has been facing harsh criticism with claims Bobby has been unfaithful, and now learning their father was indicted and convicted on criminal charges. Aye yai yai!

After watching their family interact on the show, it’s clear that no matter what has happened in the past, Sal is the loved and adored patriarch of the family. Even Nicole commended her father when she said, “Daddy gives us words of wisdom.”

I wonder if Sal will be able to offer some of that wisdom to the Giudices as they are preparing to begin their own prison sentences early next year.
