Jessa Duggar compared the Holocaust to abortion — and it isn’t surprising

Jessa Duggar - Ben Seewald Washington DC

While in Washington D.C. last weekend for the Value Voters Summit, Jessa Duggar visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Inspired by the experience, she posted a tribute to the victims on Instagram — and also used the opportunity to promote her own beliefs.

Millions of innocents denied the most basic and fundamental of all rights — their right to life. One human destroying the life of another deemed “less than human.” Racism, stemming from the evolutionary idea that man came from something less than human; that some people groups are “more evolved” and others “less evolved.” A denying that our Creator — GOD — made us human from the beginning, all of ONE BLOOD and ONE RACE, descendants of Adam. The belief that some human beings are “not fit to live.” So they’re murdered. Slaughtered. Kids with Down syndrome or other disabilities. The sickly. The elderly. The sanctity of human life varies not in sickness or health, poverty or wealth, elderly or pre-born, little or lots of melanin [making you darker or lighter skinned], or any other factor. … May we never sit idly by and allow such an atrocity to happen again. Not this generation. We must be a voice for those who cannot speak up for themselves. Because EVERY LIFE IS PRECIOUS. #ProLife

The 21-year-old was quickly criticized by some of her 450,000+ followers.

“What a horribly un Christ-like statement. You and your family are so brainwashed by the IBLP nonsense that you’ve moved so far away from true Christianity And Christ’s real message,” one person commented. “You have irresponsibly allowed yourself to live into your twenties without properly educating yourself in the real facts. You’ve allowed men to dictate what you know and how you know it without seeking all possible information about a subject and making decisions for yourself.”

Others called her “a gross human being,” a “reality star moron” and more things that probably shouldn’t be repeated. However, the majority of people who commented seemed supportive of Jessa’s belief… Which makes sense because anyone who closely follows the Duggars should know they are (questionably extreme) pro-life advocates.

In fact, both Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar made similar comparisons between the Holocaust and modern abortion practices. Jim Bob, who’s expressed ambition as an Arkansas state legislator was to ban abortion, specifically said America’s current policies on abortion are as grievous as Nazi Germany’s concentration camps.

“I heard Governor Huckabee speak and he was sharing how he had taken his daughter Sarah over to one of the concentration camps… He said, as they were walking out of that concentration camp, he said little Sarah… looked up at him and said, ‘Daddy, why didn’t somebody do something?’ And, you know what? That’s where we’re at in our nation,” he said at the 2013 Value Voters Summit last October. “Do we want our children, when we’re going to tell them about how great America was, they’re going to look at you and say, ‘Why didn’t somebody do something?'”

When Jim Bob was criticized for the metaphor, he doubled-down: “Let me clarify, we have since 1973 had 55 million abortions, so what we have going on is a baby holocaust.”

Before that, Michelle used the phrase “baby holocaust” when rallying for a pro-life amendment in Tennessee.

“Veterinarian clinics for animals in Tennessee have higher standards in health and safety laws than there are for the abortion clinics involving human life,” she said during an event on Oct. 7, 2013. “We must join together and end the baby holocaust that is taking place right here in Tennessee.”

By marrying Ben Seewald, it’s highly unlike Jessa will move away from her parents’ beliefs on abortion. If anything, Ben is the most vocal of the group about his goal to “#abolishabortion.”

“Teens, WE ARE the future. Let us join together and BE the change. Throw off the apathy of the last generation,” he said on Facebook last month. “We must end the abortion holocaust! We are the future, and we will not be stopped.”

So, let’s just settle this: Ben, Jessa and the rest of the Duggars want to entirely end abortion, even in cases of rape and incest. They are entitled to those opinions. It’s just time that the rest of their fans stops being surprised whenever they talk about anything other than weddings and babies.
