Ben “Batman” Affleck came under fire during the earliest days of summer for an alleged card counting scandal he took place in at a Las Vegas hotel. Affleck was asked to leave and then banned from the hotel; the whole thing was a mess.
Well, now the truth is out: Yes, the man responsible for Gigli did count cards. But, says he, the whole thing was blown way out of proportion. In fact, according to Affleck, he was just too good for the casinos to let him keep playing:
That is a true story. I mean, that took place. I took some time to learn the game and became a decent blackjack player. And once I became decent, the casinos asked me not to play blackjack. I mean, the fact that being good at the game is against the rules at the casinos should tell you something about casinos….They don’t even want you to have a sporting chance, really.
Disregarding whatever embellishment Affleck may be employing about his amazing talents, he is right about one thing: no, casinos do not really want you to have a sporting chance. They want to take your money, as skillfully as possible. That is, in fact, the etymology of the word “casino”: its Greek origins mean “place of shady theft.”
Affleck says he was not banned for life by the Vegas Hard Rock, but that he’d rather play in Detroit, where the smiles are wider, and the economy poorer.
The soon-to-be-Bruce Wayne was recently spotted at MotorCity Casino in greater Detroit with about $30,000 in chips in a healthy pile in front of him.
Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice is filming in Detroit, and is scheduled for a March 25, 2016 release.
