Demi Lovato is going for an unconventional headline act for her upcoming world tour. Instead of a band or singer, Demi’s going with a motivational speaker.

Due to a rare illness Spence West lost both of his legs when he was only five years old. At that time, doctors told his parents that he wouldn’t do much with his life, and he’s been working to prove them wrong. In 2012 he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro with the help of a wheelchair, and he has a flourishing career as a motivational speaker.

Demi met Spencer when they were both working with Free the Children in East Africa, and bonded quickly. “I know the power of music and understand the impact it can make,” Demi said of her friend. “I also know and understand the power of spoken word. The first time I heard Spencer talk about his personal journey I was moved. I couldn’t be happier that he’s joining my tour, and I know my fans will make a personal connection with him too.”

“I am so humbled Demi asked me to be part of her World Tour,” Spencer said. “Demi is truly breaking ground and paving the way for celebrities and the causes they care about. To have the opportunity to reach her fans sharing my personal story, and the work I do – well – it’s a dream come true. She has the most devoted fans out there and sharing our message together is a huge honor.”
