Cee No Contest: Rapper Cee Lo accepts federal drug deal, avoids jail time

Cee Lo

Cee Lo has avoided jail time by pleading not guilty to the felony charge of “furnishing Ecstasy to a woman” while the two had dinner at a restaurant in downtown Los Angeles.

Instead, the rapper, whose real name is Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, accepted the lesser charge of sharing Ecstasy with her.

He had been accused of slipping the tab of Ecstasy–referred to in the case as “Molly”–into the woman’s drink at the Wokcano restaurant in July of 2012.

Callaway, perhaps best-known for his stint as a judge on NBC’s The Voice, entered his plea of not gulity on the same day his hearing was supposed to begin.

That hearing would also have determined whether the 39-year-old Callaway used the drug for sex.

The 33-year-old woman–who hasn’t been named–told police the first thing she remembered after dinner was waking up naked in bed with Callaway.

But two rounds of investigation by the LAPD revealed no conclusive evidence, and no sex charges were filed.

Instead of jail time, Thomas has been sentenced to three years’ formal probation; 360 hours of community service; and 52 Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

Callaway’s attorney said the relations between her client and the woman were “consensual.”
