Before he became a Hollywood star with such hits as Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt used to live in a van… But it wasn’t just any van and he didn’t park it in any ol’ place: Chris lived in a Scooby Doo van in Hawaii.
“Can’t believe I found this picture!!! That is the van I lived in!!! In my hand is the script for the movie that got me out of Maui. Crazy,” the actor said on Facebook on Friday.
After graduating from high school in Washington, Chris took a semester of community college before moving to Hawaii. (He also worked as a stripper somewhere along the way.)
“I had a friend who was like, ‘Dude, you’ve got to come out here,'” Chris, 35, told Entertainment Weekly this year. “We set up camp on the beach and lived the dream.”
Because it wasn’t quite as simple as that, Chris also got a job working at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. It was there he had a chance encounter with actress Rae Dawn Chong, who was preparing for her directorial debut with an unreleased horror-comedy called Cursed Part III.
“I was like, ‘You’re in the movies, right? I always wanted to be in the movies,'” Chris recalled. “She said, ‘You’re cute. Do you act?’ I was like, f**k it, ‘Godd**n right I act! Put me in a movie!'”
Apparently that was enough of an audition to earn Chris the role and a flight back to California.
“The moment she told me she was bringing me to L.A., I knew,” he said. “I was like, ‘This is what I’m going to do with the rest of my life.'”
