VIDEO Matthew McConaughey ‘is not afraid of the fanny pack’

Would Rust Cohle wear a fanny pack?

It’s hard to argue that Matthew McConaughey is about the coolest L-I-V-I-N dude around. He’s probably going to do something so amazingly awesome as an actor that we will never see it again, he casually tosses balcony beers to Brad Pitt in his spare time, he’s our pick for who should portray the highly anticipated lead role in the television version of the beloved comic Preacher and he fearlessly rocks a fanny pack.

Wait.. What!?!

McConaughey was relaxing and enjoying a little baseball at Sunday’s Astros-Red Sox game when he wound up finding himself being interviewed by Julia Morales. The fanny pack defending reporter swung for the fences and asked Matthew about his practical fashion accessory.

His answer very well may change the course of the fanny pack in fashion history:

“I’m not afraid of the fanny pack. Instead of stuffing your pockets… You gotta kind of put it on the side to make it look a little not as nerdy, but still, the practicality wins out. I got so much gear in here that I don’t wanna keep in my pockets… I am not afraid of the fanny pack.”

Here’s more FP commentary from McC:

“You know what? How many times are you around somebody and they’re like, ‘Oh, you know what? I forgot my so and so. I gotta go back to the car’ and you’re like ‘I got mine right here.’ They’re [fanny packs] on their way back.”

Not only did Matthew give the best quote ever for the entire fanny pack industry with “I am not afraid of the fanny pack” but his influence transpired in real time and you may have missed it. Here’s a screen grab of an impressionable young man who was in the stands and noticed Matthew freakin’ McConaughey talkin’ up a lady while they were both checking out his waist line accessory.
