Zac Efron, Emily Ratajkowski cast in Catfish’s Max Joseph’s film ‘We Are Your Friends’

Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski cast in Catfish host Max joseph's feature-length directorial debut We Are Your Friends

Can you say “Castfish?!?”

As we posted about back in early July, Catfish co-host Max Joseph has landed his first feature-length film directing gig for a screenplay he co-wrote with Meaghan Oppenheimer. At the time it was rumored that Zac Efron was in talks to play the film’s lead character, and yesterday it was confirmed that he is indeed on board! Also starring in the film, titled We Are Your Friends, is Gone Girl star and “Blurred Lines” music video beauty Emily Ratajkowski!

The official word came via Deadline, who revealed that “Insurgent‘s Jonny Weston, Shiloh Fernandez and Alex Shaffer are also in various stages of negotiations” to be in the project, scheduled to begin filming in the San Fernando Valley on August 18. Soon after Deadline’s article, a very excited Max took to Twitter to share the news with his followers:

Stars Emily Ratajkowski and Zac Efron also tweeted the good news:

Max’s writing partner Meaghan Oppenheimer got in on the excitement as well, albeit with a private Twitter account. “So excited about our VISUALLY STUNNING cast for the feature i wrote with @maxjoseph” she tweeted, before adding the hashtags #WeAreYourFriends and #GoTeam.

So what is the plot of the movie We Are Friends? Deadline gives us this synopsis:

The film is a coming-of age-drama about finding your voice. It’s set in the worlds of electronic music and the Hollywood nightlife, where an aspiring 23-year-old DJ named Cole spends his days scheming with his childhood friends and his nights working on the one track that will set the world on fire. All of this changes when he meets a charismatic but damaged older DJ named James who takes him under his wing. Things get complicated, however, when Cole starts falling for James’ much younger girlfriend, Sophie. With Cole’s forbidden relationship intensifying and his friendships unraveling, he must choose between love, loyalty, and the future he knows he’s destined for.

This sounds like it could be really good! Oh, and of course, REALLY easy to look at! (Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski?!? Dayum! But, if the movie actually has Max in it holding a handheld video camera it might get a little weird. Just sayin’.)
