Susan Sarandon had a fling with David Bowie, says “He’s worth idolizing”

Susan Sarandon has more or less conquered the world. She’s a universally-respected actress who’s raised a family, loves big city life, and knows when and where to take hallucinogenic drugs.

And, according to Tammy co-star Melissa McCarthy, she “looks too good” and “glow[s] from within.” Apparently, the makeup department had to come up with extra-wrinkly ankles and other prosthetics, to make the 67-year-old Sarandon look appropriately grandmotherly for the film.

It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that Sarandon has had some interesting love affairs in her time. Like, for example, with post-cocaine, pre-Labyrinth David Bowie.

In Sarandon’s own words:

He’s worth idolizing. He’s extraordinary. That was a really interesting period. I wasn’t supposed to have kids, and I’m the oldest of nine and had mothered all of them, so I wasn’t ever in a mode to where I was looking to settle down and raise a family, so that definitely changes the gene pool you’re dipping into. But Bowie’s just a really interesting person, and so bright. He’s a talent, and a painter, and… he’s great.

The tempest took place when the pair were shooting 1983 vampire-romance movie The Hunger.

That was several years after divorcing her first husband, Chris Sarandon, but before meeting and having children with Tim Robbins.

Sarandon recently reunited for a quick selfie with Thelma and Louise co-star Geena Davis.

In the same interview, Sarandon mentioned another famous lover–this one an actor–but declined to give his name.
