“The Murray Affair: A Bill Murray Art Show” is now a thing that is happening

 Bill Murray with a bullhorn.

Ezra Croft is a self-described DJ-slash-event planner perhaps best known, so far in life, for putting on a Nicolas Cage-themed art show in San Francisco this past April. Evidently that challenge was not sufficient, because Mr. Croft has announced his latest endeavor: The Murray Affair, a gallery exhibition on August 8th devoted entirely to the visage and whimsy of Bill Murray.

(Murray, you might remember, has been in the news most recently because of the impending re-release of his best-known film.)

Croft’s rationale for this particular staging? Not that he needs much of one–”Bill Murray” is as much a self-evident force for good as “Nick Cage” is for, if not evil, then confusion–but here’s what he has to say:

Why Bill Murray you may ask? Why an art show? In a recent interview, when asked, “What’s it like being so awesome?” His response was “Well, nothing prepared me for being this awesome. It’s kind of a shock. It’s kind of a shock to wake up every morning and be bathed in this purple light.” We should aspire to live like Bill: Be awesome, have a light heart, enjoy the little things, and to always strive for excellence. An art show is just a way you can come experience that with friends!

Bill Murray in a hat.

Sounds a little light, Murray’s Reddit AMA quote aside, but the show is probably worth a look, especially if you find yourself in San Francisco on the evening in question. The art already on display is quite striking.

And speaking of that art: Croft is the event organizer; he is not an artist himself. He’s soliciting Murray-themed submissions in all mediums through July 21st. If you’ve been looking for a reason to finish your reticulated Punxatawney Phil painting or sculpture of baby What About Bob? footsteps, consider this showing a purple light of motivation from on high, and send your work his way.
