That ’70s Show veteran and Orange Is the New Black star Laura Prepon found herself on the wrong side of tabloid fodder when she was recently rumored to have been romantically involved with Tom Cruise.
In recent interviews with The Daily Beast and She Knows, the 34-year-old Scientologist got candid about all that – shooting down the rumors:
Here was her reply when asked about the alleged Tom Cruise connection:
Oh god… I knew this would come up! Dude, I have no idea. I really don’t know. I totally respect him and think he’s an amazing actor, but I’m not dating him. I don’t know what else to say. It’s crazy. It just goes to show: Don’t believe everything you read. I have no idea where it came from. I don’t know how we ended up “together.” I’m flattered because I think he’s hot so I’m like, “Oh, that’s nice,” and apparently he’s very gentlemanly with me. Apparently we get along great and he knows that I have a favorite bottle of wine that I didn’t even know I had. So, apparently he’s on cloud nine…
The actress, who brilliantly portrays tattooed ex-drug smuggler Alex Vause on OITNB, also addressed misconceptions she believes the general public has about Scientology – including the idea that her connection to the religion equates to her having an anti-gay worldview:
“The thing that sucks is that there’s so much false data because people are in a mystery as to what Scientology is, so they just kind of make up stuff. It’s kind of unfortunate because then I have to be like, ‘No, that’s actually not what’s happening. You know, in terms of portraying a lesbian on the show, I am a huge supporter of the LGBT community. I’m going to the GLAAD Awards in a few weeks. I went to the human rights campaign. I flew up to San Francisco and did this whole thing and I won this award [for] being a straight woman portraying a gay woman on camera. I’m a total supporter of the LGBT and they are an amazing fan base.”
