Lupita Nyong’o may have taken home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress last night, but younger brother Peter Nyong’o nearly stole the show — particularly during Ellen DeGeneres’ Twitter-busting selfie.
“He got into the most famous selfie in the world. I’m glad I could have facilitated that,” Lupita said after the Oscars of her brother’s position in the picture.
Based on his Instagram, Peter also scored individual pictures with Kevin Spacey, Benedict Cumberbatch, John Travolta, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Lupita joked to Ellen DeGeneres on Monday that she isn’t surprised her brother’s been so forward with A-listers, saying Peter “lives life in an exclamation point.”
Considering Lupita invited him as her date to most of award season’s biggest shows and called him her best friend during her Oscar acceptance speech, it’s pretty apparent that she doesn’t mind his lovable antics. Peter also returns his sister’s affections, calling her the love of his life in a January Facebook post.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Peter’s a freshman at Stetson University in Florida. He’s currently in the general College of Liberal Arts and Sciences — although Lupita indicated to Ellen DeGeneres that he’s considering a career in entertainment.
Before coming to America for college, Peter attended an elite boarding school in Kenya. Besides his now Oscar-winning sister, Peter has four other siblings.
