Flowers in the Attic sequel Petals on the Wind to begin filming

Flowers in the Attic - Petals on the Wind Sequel

The 6.1 million viewers who tuned into Lifetime’s Flowers in the Attic should be pleased to know a sequel is officially in motion: Production for Petals on the Wind, which was the second of V.C. Andrews’ five books on the Dollanganger family, is scheduled to begin on Feb. 25.

“I don’t want to give away too much. It basically takes place about 10 years after the first movie ends and I will just say that it’s a very juicy, compelling revenge drama,” screenwriter Kayla Alpert said of the new adaptation.

The Petals on the Wind book focuses on Cathy’s complicated relationship with Dr. Paul Sheffield, a supposed widower initially takes custody of the Dollanganger children. Cathy and Paul later fell in love and planned to wed — until she began to realize he had skeletons in his own closet. To spite him, Cathy married Julian Marquet, a temperamental dancer from her troupe who became extremely controlling and abusive. As the story unfolds, Cathy puts a plan in motion to get revenge against her mother.

With the story set years down the road from Flowers in the Attic, Lifetime producers cast Once Upon a Time‘s Rose McIver as Cathy — who was previously portrayed by Kiernan Shipka. Julian’s character will be played by Val Helsing‘s Will Kemp.
