Nancy Motes, Julia Robert’s half-sister, died on Sunday of a suspected suicide by drug overdose.
“The family is both shocked and devastated,” the Motes’ said in a statement. That group presumably includes Julia, half-brother Eric Roberts and their shared mother, Betty Lou Motes.
Unfortunately, Nancy didn’t seem to feel that love in recent months.
“(M)y own family has abandoned me,” Nancy tweeted on Jan. 22. The message remained posted until Tuesday morning. All personal messages from Nancy were then scrubbed from her Twitter account.
In another tweet from Jan. 20, Nancy seemed to take direct aim at Julia: “So my ‘sister’ said that with all her friends & fans she doesn’t need any more love. Just so you all know ‘America’s Sweetheart’ is a B**CH!!”
Other messages included more references to Julia, her estranged family and her excitement about her upcoming wedding to fiancé John Dilbeck.
Nancy and Julia reportedly had a falling out after Nancy accused her older sister of blocking access to their ailing mother and of ridiculing her weight.
“My weight has fluctuated my entire life. So I just got a lot of criticism from Julia, which was very discouraging for me,” Nancy told New York Daily News in August 2013. She added Julia’s criticisms drove her to get gastric bypass in 2010. “It just makes me feel incredibly hurt and very sad.”
According to one source, Nancy carried that bitterness with her until the very end.
“She left a five-page suicide letter,” a source told New York Daily News. “There were three pages of rantings that her sister drove her to do this. There was one page to her mom, telling her how much she loved her, and one page apologizing to (her fiancé).”
Following the news of Nancy’s death, Julia Roberts canceled appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and at the Academy Awards’ Nominees Luncheon.
