Roman Polanski Swiss Alpine Chalet “Milky Way” house arrest

Here are some photos of the Swiss Chalet, called the “Milky Way,” in the luxury resort of Gstaad where Roman Polanski will be held under house arrest starting this Friday. He is currently being held in an undisclosed location for security reasons.

Switzerland is still deciding if they will extradite the Polish director to the United States, which he fled in 1978, after being charged with having sex with a 13-year-old girl. Polanski has been living in France for over 30-years, and was arrested a few months ago when he attempted to attend a film festival in his honor hosted in Sweden. Swiss police were waiting for him when he crossed the border.

He is being let out under conditions of house arrest with a $4.5 million bail, supposedly a big chunk of his fortune. The 76-year-old will wear an electronic bracelet to keep him chalet-bound, and his phone calls will be monitored. According to Polanski’s sister-in-law, Mathilde Seigner, Presiden Nicolas Sarkozy has been “very effective” in helping the director get bail. She told Le Parisien newspaper:

“I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it is thanks to the President that Roman has been freed, but he has been super. The President has been very effective.”

Polanski’s wife of 20 years, 43-year-old Emmanuelle Seigner, will live with him in the “Milky Way” resort chalet.
