Jen told People she recently completed chemotherapy and her blood tests showed the disease is in remission.
“And while I’m hesitant to say I’m cancer-free – maybe that’s common for people who have had cancer – I’m doing great. Everything is moving in the right direction. I am very excited,” Jen said, adding she’s thankful for husband Bill Klein’s unwavering support. “That and enjoying watching my children play was a huge uplifting part of my treatment.”
Bill later responded to his wife’s announcement, saying on Twitter, “My wife has confirmed what I knew would happen all along… she beat the ever living s**t out of cancer. I love you @JenArnoldMD”
Jen was diagnosed with cancer last fall. She initially refrained from sharing her specific diagnosis, but said she was “very fortunate as the prognosis is good.” She later elaborated that she was battling stage 3 choriocarcinoma, a rare type of cancer that began with a a non-viable pregnancy she suffered in September. She explained she was diagnosed shortly after returning home from India, where she and Bill adopted their second child.
Jen then endured a challenging few months of chemotherapy, but maintained a positive outlook.
“While on chemotherapy there are good days & bad days- the challenge is to not fight it, but learn how to make the best of both,” she said in December.
Now in remission, Jen said she’s eager to get back to her normal self.
“Sometimes I get a little winded when I walk around more and I have that fuzzy chemo brain at times, but I am very excited and happy to be where I am right now,” she told People.
Although there’s no more chemo on the horizon, Jen will have weekly blood tests to monitor her condition. Those blood tests will become less frequent as months go on. Jen — who is a neonatologist at Texas Children’s Hospital — explained this is because 85 percent of cancer recurrences take place within 18 months of initial chemo treatments.
For now, the Klein-Arnold family is celebrating Jen’s remission. Plus, the timing couldn’t be better, considering today is World Cancer Day.
Our heartfelt congratulations to Jen, Bill and their kids on conquering cancer!
