Chris Brown evades jail for probation violation, must remain in rehab

Chris Brown - Jail Evaded

Because one wayward pop star is almost enough to handle, we’re saying our words of thanks this morning that Chris Brown has to remain in rehab for a while longer.

Chris is likely also feeling thankful, considering a judge denied a prosecutor’s petition to jail the Kiss Kiss singer. The motion stemmed from a car crash last year where Chris failed to properly exchange information. He was originally placed on probation for assaulting Rihanna in 2009.

“He continues to pose an increasingly violent danger to society,” said Los Angeles District Attorney Mary Murray in official court motion. Although the motion was linked to the car crash violation, Mary cited Chris’ October 2013 arrest for punching a man in the face outside of a Washington D.C. bar.

Chris checked into rehab shortly after that incident, but checked out two weeks later. Details then emerged about Chris’ violent outburst while in anger management and he was swiftly ordered to enter an inpatient treatment facility for 90 days.

Chris’ lawyer Mark Geragos said his client’s temperament has since improved.

“I say keep things on a short leash,” Mark Geragos told the court, E! News reports. “Keep him where he is now… He is making great strides and all you have to do is look at him, and I’ve known him for five years. He’s as good as he’s ever been.”

Chris is due back in court on Feb. 20 to address the October 2013 misdemeanor assault charges. He previously pled not guilty. Chris is also due in court on Feb. 28 to update the judge on his court-ordered community service progress.
