Although Nicki Minaj said she was “so honored to be a part” of ESPN Magazine‘s Music Edition, her praise for the magazine wasn’t universal.

Sharing the cover photo of her and Kobe Bryant on Instagram, the former American Idol judge wrote, “When retouching goes wrong.”

Nicki added seven behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot. She said of one, “I love my personal unretouched photos where my forehead doesn’t mysteriously grow in length.”

Although the differences between Nicki’s original and retouched photos are relatively small — particularly when compared to some crimes of Photoshop we’ve previously documented — she is proving a point: Why was the airbrushing even necessary? Girl looked fabulous without the digital editors’ help!

Then again, the main adjustments to the photos appear to be with the lighting and contest, which is pretty standard for any magazine cover. Considering Nicki isn’t new to the industry and this isn’t her first cover, she should have expected some photo manipulation…
