Jamie Lynn Spears How Could I Want More

Although Jamie Lynn Spears is obviously following in her big sister Britney’s footsteps to some degree with her debut album due out soon, Jamie’s also heading down a slightly different path in that she’s eschewing the electronic dance beats and synthesized pop in favor of the toned down twang of traditional country music. Or at least that’s what we must assume after hearing the debut single “How Could I Want More” released earlier today — a wonderfully understated ballad about overcoming the insecurity and irrationality of the human heart, which often wants more than plenty, especially when it comes to love.

Give the song a listen and see what you think:

I really like it! I was fearful it would be overworked with two much production and instrumentation, but it’s very simple and sincere — two integral ingredients to just about any good country song.

The music project comes five years after Jamie left the Nick show Zoey 101 in 1998 to give birth to her daughter, Maddie. After spending those five years being a mother and quietly working towards launching her music career, the 22-year-old single mom can’t believe it’s finally happening. “It’s like, ‘Oh my goodness, I’m really gonna do this,’” Jamie told E! News in a recent interview. “It’s like my second baby.”

Jamie talked with Glamour back in February about her music and song writing. “I’m more honest in my lyrics than I am in anything else,” she said. “It’s where I feel the most safe to express myself. I write about growing up, my family, Maddie and getting pregnant. If I’ve lived it, why wouldn’t I talk about it? I guess that’s been the coolest thing, realizing that it’s OK to just be myself and really tell my story.”

In addition to her own album, which still has yet to get a release date or a title, Jamie is also making an appearance on her big sister Britney Spears’ new album Britney Jean, due to be released December 3. Jamie appears on the track “Chillin’ With You,” which Britney announced on Twitter earlier this month:

Jamie replied the next day with excitement, hinting at her own release coming soon:

A you might imagine, Jamie was super excited for the release of “How Could I Want More” earlier today:

Jamie followed up the announcement with a brief Twitter Q&A with fans in which she answered questions about topics ranging from her daughter Maddie to her pooch to the new single:

Jamie hinted that we might be getting another song or perhaps more information on her new album tomorrow!

Britney also shared her excitement over Jamie’s single release:

You gotta work, sis!

OK, I gotta wrap this up at some point! So, here are the lyrics to “How Could I Want More” by Jamie Lynn Spears. Congrats again to her for a really wonderful debut!

Lying in the green grass
Underneath the blue sky
Looking at a good man
Wanna be the right guy?
He’s got that kinda heart that
Any girl would die for

So, how could I want more?
How could I want more?

Treats me like a princess
Let’s me have it my way
I could tell he’s hanging
On every word that I say
All he does is love me
He swears that’s what he’s here for

So, how could I want more?
How could I want more?

More fire, more feeling
More stars than what I’m seeing
More hurtful what I find behind that door
More power, more passion
Instead of just acting
Like I’m the one that he’s been looking for

I oughta say I’m sorry
I oughta say it’s over
Let him live his own life
Stop crying on his shoulder
He’d probably say it’s alright
And hold me while me tears pour

So, how could I want more?
How could I want more?

More fire, more feeling
More stars than what I’m seeing
More hurtful what I find behind that door
More power, more passion
Instead of just acting
Like I’m the one that he’s been looking for

Lying in the green grass
Underneath the blue sky
Looking at a good man
And I know he’s the right guy
He’s got that kinda heart that
Any girl would die for

So, how could I want more?
How could I want more?

As you were writing the numbers 19..didn’t something click in your mind that it couldn’t possibly be nineteen ninty anything if it had to do with Zoey 101 lol

She always had a better voice than Britney. In love with this song. Hopefully the rest of her album is just as good.

    • Steph

Wow, I LOVE this. Her voice is so perfect for country. Cant wait to hear more.

I like Jamie’s singing voice more than Britney’s. Jamie sings with passion, with emotion. Its going to a damn near impossible feat to accomplish especially when Jamie will forever be compared to her very successful sister, Britney. People will never give Jamie the chance/shot she truly deserves, because of who her sister is. It unfair and sad, but oh, so very true. I wish Jamie luck either way. She’s definitely got the voice and personally, I like the song. Country music fits her well. I thought I heard a little TWANG in Jamie’s voice. :-)

Oh wow, I love her voice and the song! Yeah, people will always compare her to Britney, but it’s not a bad thing for her, because she sings a lot better than Britney. I wish Jamie all the best.

Is everyone hearing what i am? She doesn’t have a strong voice, it sounds like she’s talking. Her voice isnt unpleasant, but shes not a singer. You know you can’t sing when the highlight of the song is an instrumental solo. No singing talent here.

      • Brittany

Same. She can’t hold notes very long and is struggling to hit higher notes. I love the song and the sound of her voice, if that makes sense, but she can’t really sing.

    • Yelly

So she had her daughter when she was 10 years old roundabout?

      • steph

Jamie is currently 22, her daughter is 5. Simple subtraction means she was 17 when she had her daughter.

        • Brittany

But she was 16 and Pregnant, zing! I’m here all day, folks. No just kidding, I have to go to work.
