Although Jamie Lynn Spears is obviously following in her big sister Britney’s footsteps to some degree with her debut album due out soon, Jamie’s also heading down a slightly different path in that she’s eschewing the electronic dance beats and synthesized pop in favor of the toned down twang of traditional country music. Or at least that’s what we must assume after hearing the debut single “How Could I Want More” released earlier today — a wonderfully understated ballad about overcoming the insecurity and irrationality of the human heart, which often wants more than plenty, especially when it comes to love.
Give the song a listen and see what you think:
I really like it! I was fearful it would be overworked with two much production and instrumentation, but it’s very simple and sincere — two integral ingredients to just about any good country song.

The music project comes five years after Jamie left the Nick show Zoey 101 in 1998 to give birth to her daughter, Maddie. After spending those five years being a mother and quietly working towards launching her music career, the 22-year-old single mom can’t believe it’s finally happening. “It’s like, ‘Oh my goodness, I’m really gonna do this,'” Jamie told E! News in a recent interview. “It’s like my second baby.”

Jamie talked with Glamour back in February about her music and song writing. “I’m more honest in my lyrics than I am in anything else,” she said. “It’s where I feel the most safe to express myself. I write about growing up, my family, Maddie and getting pregnant. If I’ve lived it, why wouldn’t I talk about it? I guess that’s been the coolest thing, realizing that it’s OK to just be myself and really tell my story.”
In addition to her own album, which still has yet to get a release date or a title, Jamie is also making an appearance on her big sister Britney Spears’ new album Britney Jean, due to be released December 3. Jamie appears on the track “Chillin’ With You,” which Britney announced on Twitter earlier this month:

Jamie replied the next day with excitement, hinting at her own release coming soon:
