Actor Michael Fassbender’s “bender” made quite an impact when it revealed itself in the 2011 film Shame. Since that time, the penis belonging to the star of The Counselor has become a star in its own right.
In a recent interview with UK Elle, (Via The Cut) Fassbender has jumped aboard the Hammaconda train by joining Mad Men’s Jon Hamm in complaining about all the attention his man-parts get. He went as far as to argue that the treatment is sexist:
It wouldn’t be acceptable, it would be seen as sexual harassment, people saying [to an actress], “Your vagina …” You know?
Wait a second. Is Fassbender suggesting that female celebrities don’t get asked about their breasts, and wardrobe malfunctions and lady-parts and that people don’t obsess about all of that ALL OF THE TIME!? Two wrongs don’t make a right I know, but I don’t see this as being a sexist issue…
Fassbender then discussed his own insecurities and self-consciousness about his looks:
I’ve never really thought of myself as good looking. I think of myself as, you know, alright … I used to have bad acne as a teenager, so all of this is a bonus now, the fact that I don’t have pimples any more. And my hair was also, you know, unfortunate. I had really long hair. I mean, I tied it back most of the time, but I had all these frizzy bits coming off the top.
The 36-year-old explained that it wasn’t easy to do the nude scenes. “I’m insecure, of course I am. But that was just a matter of me going, OK and just getting naked,” he said.
I think that a lot of actresses would tell Michael that the last part there is kind of important. Once he put his privates out there for his art, they weren’t really private anymore. It doesn’t necessarily make it right that there’s a Tumblr account dedicated solely to his manhood (I checked – there is) but he put it out there and for the foreseeable future will just have to deal with some folks’ fascination with “The Fassbender.”
