New Girl Meets World details: Who’s in and who’s out

Girl Meets World - Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage

The premise for Disney’s upcoming Girl Meets World sounds familiar: Preteen Riley Matthews navigates life with the help of — in this case — her best friend. But, unlike the preceding Boy Meets World, GMW‘s protagonist won’t be joined by an older sibling.

Teo Halm, the teen actor originally slatted to play older bro Elliot Matthews, revealed the show’s producers decided to go another direction.

Danielle Fishel, Teo’s would-be tv-mom, responded he’s an incredible talent and may still call her mom.

Even though Teo’s out, there are a few new characters to get familiar with: TV Line reported in August that the Matthews family includes a younger brother, Louis. He is played by August Maturo, who previously appeared in How I Met Your Mother.

Another character sure to get a lot of screen time is Tristan Friar, Riley’s crush. He is played by Peyton Meyer, who is also set to guest star in Disney’s Dog With a Blog.

In terms of a Shawn Hunter-esque character, Riley will have a partner in crime named Maya Fox. She is played by Sabrina Carpenter, who previously appeared in Orange is the New Black and Austin & Ally.

Unfortunately for devoted members of Boy Meets World fan club, it’s still unclear whether Rider Strong or Will Friedle will reprise their roles in the upcoming series. However, William Daniels will make a cameo appearance as Mr. Feeney in the premiere episode!

More exciting news about production came straight from Danielle Fishel. She revealed to Too Fab this weekend that production starts in November. Before that point, Danielle isn’t concerned about getting in tune with Topanga Lawrence.

“Topanga is right on the other side of my heart,” she said of the character she previously played for seven years.

Although she isn’t a mom in real life, 32-year-old Danielle added she isn’t worried about playing one on screen.

“I think I’m very maternal, naturally. It just comes naturally to me,” she said. “The kids are so wonderful. I already love them like my own.”

Girl Meets World is scheduled to premiere in 2014.
