MTV struck hit an unexpected home run when they filmed a candid documentary series about pregnant teen girls, 16 and Pregnant. While they’re working on a second season with a new batch of girls, they’ve developed a new show, Teen Mom (airing December 8, 10 p.m. Eastern), to follow four of the teenagers as they tackle motherhood. Maci, Farrah, Amber, and Catelynn will be featured in the new series, and from the looks of the trailer, it’s gonna be full of drama.
Since we’re used to overproduced fake docu-dramas and annoying game-style dating shows from the former “music” network, it was refreshing to watch a series handle a tough topic with such subtly and care. 16 and Pregnant didn’t glamorize teen pregnancy, but it also didn’t overly emphasize the negative. It showcased the difficult reality of teenage pregnancy without downplaying the unexpected joys a baby can bring into a family.
Farrah was single throughout her pregnancy and Teen Mom will follow her as she navigates the dating world as a single mom. Maci, Amber, and Catelynn are still in relationships with their baby’s father, but the trailer hints at explosive domestic drama as they try to cope with growing up and parenthood at the same time. Catelynn was the only girl to actually give her baby up for adoption, and she seemed to have the best relationship with her boyfriend, but even after that difficult lesson it looks like they still may not have mastered birth control. Unfortunately one of my personal favorites, Whitney, isn’t in this new series. Chumpy and Memaw should really have a spinoff.

In MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, you watched Maci, Farrah, Amber and Catelynn move through the process of having a baby at a very young age, and although all four girls still stand by the decisions they made, this new chapter in their lives is definitely no walk in the park. On Dec. 8 at 10pm, MTV will premiere its new series, Teen Mom, which follows each of the mothers throughout their first year of parenthood. Ryan what is your problem? Do you not see what Maci does for YOUR child? Do you not see what a great mother she is? How dare you call her lazy? You are the lazy one and you need to grow up. If you love her, then get your a$$ up and show it. If you don’t, then stop wasting her time cause she can do waaaay better than you. Amber you are lazy too! You are a good mother, and yes Gary could help out more but d**n! He is a nice guy and is there for you and Leah so stop complaining. I wish my husband was as nice as him. Catelyn, I really don’t know what i think about your situation. I dont exactly agree on adoption, I mean you were ready for sex so why are ya not ready to take care of the consequences? Regardless, what’s done is done, there is no going back so I wish you and Tyler the best, you are lucky to have him. And Farrah, at first I thought you were chidish and irresponsible. But later on you showed a change and that is good for Sophia. It must be hard to give up going out and dating. I think you can still do both, just prioritize time with sophia. Eventually, the right guy will come and will take care of you both. Just have faith.
I watch this show a lot because I can relate to so many of you. I was 16 when I had my first child. His father was not around and I raised him by myself. When I was 21 I became pregnant again and the father was not a good person and I was not stable enough to care for another child on my own. I chose to give her up for adoption in an open adoption situation. I am now 28, married, and a mother to 3 beautiful boys. My oldest is now 12 and has a very good understanding on life. He watches the show with me all the time. We are very close. I see my daughter and have a good relationship with her parents. Life has a funny way of working itself out and I am a firm believer in the saying, God will never give you more than you can handle. I guess he thought I could handle a lot. I have great faith in all the girls but especially feel close to Catelynn and Maci. They are very amazing girls and I see a lot of myself in them. I wasn’t always sure I could end up happy with all my extra “baggage”. I found a wonderful man and life is great. So there is hope!!!!
yes its the obvious that maci is the best mommy we have ever seen.. giving up her dreams for one person and that being her child and not a man.. i have alot of respect for her because myself got pregnant at the age of 16 and now im the age 22 with 3 kids.. and its still hard.. catelyNN and tyler do have the best relationship i have ever seen with any couple .. never argue. never get mad at each other.. how they always sit down and talk about everything and how he holds her when she crys and they are always saying i love you… amber yes she is always fussin but mostly she has a reason..garys not the best. i give him props for paying the bills to keep a roof over her and leahs head but others things could be change.. she’s a good mom to that child and she deserves her personal time to herself just like gary gets… motherhood is a fulltime job just like his job doing whatever it is that he does.. NOW farrah.. everybody is hating on farrah.. i can see it in her eyes that she loves her daughter sophia.. maybe she doesnt spend the time that she should with her but atleast she’s trying and she’s working to make a better life for her and her daughter.. and everyone talking about how she treats her parents or how she’s such a b!tch.. well look at her sister and most definately look at her mom.. she was raised in that type of environment.. her mom b!tches about everything and so does her sister.. when ur raised in a specific type of environment you tend to grow up and live that way urself.. and her father or stepfather whichever he many be is the same way.. everybody needs to lay off of her and give her a chance..
People here that are saying that by Gary paying for Amber’s bills is nothing, like really? That girl needs to get her a$$ up and clean her home. I understand that being a mom is so difficult but how is it that so many people do it and Amber can’t?
She needs to grow up and understand that she got herself in this and Gary is a good man and just trying to give his daughter everything he can. If its not that of a big deal that Gary pays for her s**t how come when he decided not to be paying for her s**t she got all upset. Whatever that girl needs to grow up!

Im 16 and im about to be a teen mom, and i can relate to all of these girls.
Maci- Your an amazing mom, and dont let ryan ever tell you different. My Babys dad is a piece of work. He has another girl pregnant and decided that me and his son is not for him. Its gonna be ALOT of work, and i know that. but i have my mom to help me raise my son. Just like you do. I hope you get away from him. and really realize that you can do way better than him.

Hey farrah i see where your coming from where your parents get on you about something buts thats their job to do so. Also instead of going around and looking for boys look for a man who is willing to settle down and grow up and have a family. Maci you should realize your boyfriend ryan is a joke, if he doesn’t want to spend time with you or the kid move on and yes it will be hard. Another thing is look how he acted when you wanted family photos and just remember that if your going for looks your heading the wrong direction go for the heart of a person it will make things in life much easier. Bentley is adorable and youre such a great mom and ryans really missing out on his family maybe one day he’ll realize what he lost and how much he loves his baby boy. idk how he can stop spending time with him hes too cuutteee:)
CATELYNN: you and tyler were by faaarrr my number one focus on this show, its so amazing how supportive and there for each other yall are. i couldnt imagine finding anyone like that but seeing you guys’s story and hardships makes me have hope for me. im not prego or anything but yall are a very inspiring couple and im so glad he proposed

I am a 41 year old mother of two,,, I was a young single mom at 18, and i identify with all of these mothers,,, It was not an easy road raising my daughter by myself,,, but my daughter is now in college and my youngest has one more year of high school. It is not an easy road but I would never trade the decisions that i made because things always work out for the best!!! But I need to speak to Farrah u have a Mom who is sticking by your side, please don’t get mad at her she is the only mom u will ever have,,, My Mom stuck by my side and I appreciate everything she did for me and my daughter!!! Hmm, first of all amber is lazy, i’m a teen mom(17) i keep our house clean,cook,wash, do everything&plus have time to relax.! Maci&catelyn are amazing. Farrah is pretty but she needs to grow up.
Having a baby at 17, I can relate to the cast of Teen Mom and I’m only 19 now.
Maci- You are beautiful and so strong. Ryan has no right to call you lazy with your schoolwork, you are doing the best you can seeing that he is no help to you at all. You’re a wonderful mother to little Bentley.
Amber- I’m so proud of you for getting a job. Hopefully you can stick with it. Gary plays the guilty card a lot it seems like you get you back. It’s about time you put your foot down and got out. BTW, Leah is adorableee!!!
Farrah- You are portrayed like a bad mother on TV, even though that may not be your intentions. It’s also disgusting to see you disrespect your parents that way. You don’t need to go out searching for a boyfriend or potential father for Sophia, she needs a mother first.

It’s sad to see Farrah acting like a teenager, because often I forget she is one. I see a child and think she should be behaving like a mother, but obviously maturity does not come with parenthood. She doesn’t understand that she DOES have the rest of her life to socialize and her child only has ONE chance to grow up with her mother around. I thank god every day my mother was responsible and spent as much time with me as she did.
Leah and Gary make me sad, and I wish Leah had a better opportunity to leave him and get her and her baby away from him, I feel as though he’s a bad example.
Maci is an amazing mother and she is doing such a great job of raising her, especially for her first time! I wish Ryan would man up and come around more like he needs to, though. =(
Annnd Catelynn. I’m so proud of her, even with a shaky family life (and Tyler, too), the two of them stay so loyal and loving toward one another and I think a lot of people twice their age could learn a thing or two from them. I know they did the best thing for their baby, but I think those two will make fantastic parents when and if they ever decide to have one of their own.

wow first of all what the heck does amber’s clothing have to do with anything?? both amber and gary were to blame for theire problems, gary was not helpful at all and when things didnt go his way he pitched a fit and he wasnt supportive what so ever! They both have growing up to do but try putting yourself in their situation, trying to raise a child is a full time job.
