MTV struck hit an unexpected home run when they filmed a candid documentary series about pregnant teen girls, 16 and Pregnant. While they’re working on a second season with a new batch of girls, they’ve developed a new show, Teen Mom (airing December 8, 10 p.m. Eastern), to follow four of the teenagers as they tackle motherhood. Maci, Farrah, Amber, and Catelynn will be featured in the new series, and from the looks of the trailer, it’s gonna be full of drama.

Since we’re used to overproduced fake docu-dramas and annoying game-style dating shows from the former “music” network, it was refreshing to watch a series handle a tough topic with such subtly and care. 16 and Pregnant didn’t glamorize teen pregnancy, but it also didn’t overly emphasize the negative. It showcased the difficult reality of teenage pregnancy without downplaying the unexpected joys a baby can bring into a family.

Farrah was single throughout her pregnancy and Teen Mom will follow her as she navigates the dating world as a single mom. Maci, Amber, and Catelynn are still in relationships with their baby’s father, but the trailer hints at explosive domestic drama as they try to cope with growing up and parenthood at the same time. Catelynn was the only girl to actually give her baby up for adoption, and she seemed to have the best relationship with her boyfriend, but even after that difficult lesson it looks like they still may not have mastered birth control. Unfortunately one of my personal favorites, Whitney, isn’t in this new series. Chumpy and Memaw should really have a spinoff.

In MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, you watched Maci, Farrah, Amber and Catelynn move through the process of having a baby at a very young age, and although all four girls still stand by the decisions they made, this new chapter in their lives is definitely no walk in the park. On Dec. 8 at 10pm, MTV will premiere its new series, Teen Mom, which follows each of the mothers throughout their first year of parenthood. Check out the show’s trailer below to get your first glimpse at what’s been going on in their lives since giving birth.

    wow first of all what the heck does amber’s clothing have to do with anything?? both amber and gary were to blame for theire problems, gary was not helpful at all and when things didnt go his way he pitched a fit and he wasnt supportive what so ever! They both have growing up to do but try putting yourself in their situation, trying to raise a child is a full time job.

I think that Maci is a wonderful mother! Bently is adorable, her and Ryan should work things out for the sake of Bently. He needs them to be happy together. Farrah is a sweet girl and I know she’s tryin to have a social life, she is only 18, but she should spend more time on Sophia. She’s beautiful and deserves to have her mom around a lot more. well, first of all maci i think that you are an outstanding mother you have been through so much with ryan and bently. i would have left him along time ago but you stayed with him for bently and that takes courage. i wish that your were my mom because your so responsible! Farrah, i know what it’s like to have to deal with parents but, it’s worth it just stay there until you can find a place of your own and have someone to help as well. I love Maci 1st off its safe to say we all do. But Farrah its good she is goin to school and working, but there will always be time for her to have a social life. She went in had a baby not her mother. And far as I can see they show more shots with the mom and the baby than she does. And if anything she need not to be disrespectful to her parent, because they could jus kick her out wit her baby then what is she gonna say. So she needs to sit down focus and when she gets the money to move out and get her own place then she can do what she wanna do. Having a baby at 17, I can relate to the cast of Teen Mom and I’m only 19 now.

Maci- You are beautiful and so strong. Ryan has no right to call you lazy with your schoolwork, you are doing the best you can seeing that he is no help to you at all. You’re a wonderful mother to little Bentley.

Amber- I’m so proud of you for getting a job. Hopefully you can stick with it. Gary plays the guilty card a lot it seems like you get you back. It’s about time you put your foot down and got out. BTW, Leah is adorableee!!!

Farrah- You are portrayed like a bad mother on TV, even though that may not be your intentions. It’s also disgusting to see you disrespect your parents that way. You don’t need to go out searching for a boyfriend or potential father for Sophia, she needs a mother first.

Catelynn- You and Tyler are the most perfect couple. You two made the bravest decision for Carly and your relationship is so strong. I can’t wait to see you get married, you both have something to last forever. I’m very proud of you although your parents aren’t so supportive.

  I completely agree with every single thing you said, and I think a lot of people do, too.
  It’s sad to see Farrah acting like a teenager, because often I forget she is one. I see a child and think she should be behaving like a mother, but obviously maturity does not come with parenthood. She doesn’t understand that she DOES have the rest of her life to socialize and her child only has ONE chance to grow up with her mother around. I thank god every day my mother was responsible and spent as much time with me as she did.
  
  Leah and Gary make me sad, and I wish Leah had a better opportunity to leave him and get her and her baby away from him, I feel as though he’s a bad example.

I’m so proud of her, even with a shaky family life (and Tyler, too), the two of them stay so loyal and loving toward one another and I think a lot of people twice their age could learn a thing or two from them. I know they did the best thing for their baby, but I think those two will make fantastic parents when and if they ever decide to have one of their own.

  I am a 41 year old mother of two,,, I was a young single mom at 18, and i identify with all of these mothers,,, It was not an easy road raising my daughter by myself,,, but my daughter is now in college and my youngest has one more year of high school. It is not an easy road but I would never trade the decisions that i made because things always work out for the best!!! Hey farrah i see where your coming from where your parents get on you about something buts thats their job to do so. Also instead of going around and looking for boys look for a man who is willing to settle down and grow up and have a family. Maci- Your an amazing mom, and dont let ryan ever tell you different. My Babys dad is a piece of work. He has another girl pregnant and decided that me and his son is not for him. yes its the obvious that maci is the best mommy we have ever seen.. giving up her dreams for one person and that being her child and not a man.. i have alot of respect for her because myself got pregnant at the age of 16 and now im the age 22 with 3 kids.. and its still hard.. catelyNN and tyler do have the best relationship i have ever seen with any couple .. never argue. never get mad at each other.. how they always sit down and talk about everything and how he holds her when she crys and they are always saying i love you… amber yes she is always fussin but mostly she has a reason..garys not the best. i give him props for paying the bills to keep a roof over her and leahs head but others things could be change.. she’s a good mom to that child and she deserves her personal time to herself just like gary gets… motherhood is a fulltime job just like his job doing whatever it is that he does.. I watch this show a lot because I can relate to so many of you. I was 16 when I had my first child. His father was not around and I raised him by myself. When I was 21 I became pregnant again and the father was not a good person and I was not stable enough to care for another child on my own. I chose to give her up for adoption in an open adoption situation. I am now 28, married, and a mother to 3 beautiful boys. My oldest is now 12 and has a very good understanding on life. He watches the show with me all the time. We are very close. I see my daughter and have a good relationship with her parents. Life has a funny way of working itself out and I am a firm believer in the saying, God will never give you more than you can handle. I guess he thought I could handle a lot. I have great faith in all the girls but especially feel close to Catelynn and Maci. They are very amazing girls and I see a lot of myself in them. I wasn’t always sure I could end up happy with all my extra “baggage”. I found a wonderful man and life is great. So there is hope!!!!

Amber chill out a little on gary hes a good guy and he loves u very much!!! And last but not least Farrah girl you are amazing and beautiful and there are plenty of guys out there that would be more then happy to take care of u and little princess sophia. Dont give up girl!!!!! I love all of you…keep taking care of those babies and dont let anyone tell u ur not doing a good job because from what Im seeing your doing a WHOLE lot better then most 16 yr olds!!!!!!

Maci is the best mom on that show even though she is young shes stepped up to being a parent.. Shes responsible, selfless, and is really trying to make a life for her and bently.. Amber I dont know what had crawled up your ass lately but you are a B**** and who lets there baby run around a store pretty much destroying it.. Watch your kid and clean your freaking house.. And gary is a big lazy piece of S*** too.. Catelyn and tyler i realize you gave up your baby and thats hard, and with your home situation it wouldnt be good for the kid.. i love maci and her precious little bently! she holds her ground and stands true to herself but mostly importantly to bently! amber, grow up! i see both sides(that is shown on tv) and gary doesnt really help, but stop complaining about everything. leah is the most important thing not gary, you got your self a house, not him, and you have a job. get your GED and go to school! that little girl loves you. try not to cuss in front of her. even though you present yourself as a negative person on the show, i am sure you are a wonderful mom(wither anyone sees or believes it) just keep your head high! and lose the attitude, your daughter will copy everthing you do… tyler you are a wonderful young man! stay true to you and your wonderful catylinn and stay true to each other! i am young mother of two and i can say its no joke! so you guys keep it up!

I myself was a teen mom, I am now 22 and have two beautiful children. Luckily for me though I have my sons fathers in my life, and were doing wonderful. Maci is the most amazing mother on this show, she proves that just because your young your not a bad mom. She proves the stereotype wrong. Farrah, Your young, beautiful, and strong, I thought you were a brat before, but now Im watching, and your dealt just to much crap! Amber.. you need to grow up and FAST!, and Catelynn, you have a wonderful man, its hard to find, and Im glad you have him at your side to help you through the hard times.

i love this show. i have been watching ever since 16 and pregnant & i love all the mom’s and babies & tyler. i think amber is a lil stressed out and kind of bitchy, but other than that an amazing show! love the babies they are so cuteee! and tyler too, for a white boy! lmaoo

Does maci work? She is a pretty and bright girl. I think she needs to think of her parents and all they have givin her. To leave them and move to in with her new boyfriend kind of selfish since i see they are supporting her. I’m feel sorry for ferrah parents are a little off, but still she surives. Amber i think has just deep anger in trying to get by with no money and takes it out on her on and off again boyfriend who needs to grow up too. catelynn i could not understand the pain of knowing my child walks this earth without them by my side. She is very smart and selfish, I just hope the past doesn’t consume her intire life and she moves on to happier times.

All the teens on the show need to grow up i was a teen mom at 15 and when I had my twins no one help they dont know what hard is they get payed for the shows they do and use the babys as a money maker they prob had the kids so the can be on tv an have fam step in the life of people that dont get payed for raising their own kids and and not having help from tv

  hi im 20 an a mom of 2 i have a two year old an a 3 month old baby an yes it is hard being a teen mom its more harder if u have a really sick baby like my two year old has to have needles 5 times a day i haveto get up an down with her though the night like a new born baby so yes i thank god every day to that i can have an see my to little girls people dont no what it is like to be a mother unless u r a mom but i love my my girls an i would not chang it for a second
