How much is One Direction worth?

One Direction is set to be the first boy band to ever to make over $1 billion according to Business Insider. They calculate that the heartthrobs will hit the billion mark by 2014 based on estimated ticket sales for both 2013 and 2014 tours, record sales, movie ticket and DVD sales, and merchandising.

Here’s the breakdown:

Estimated ticket sales for this year and last: $457,500,000

Gross record sales: $300,000,000

Gross movie sales: $150,000,000

DVD sales: $15,000,000

Merchandising and other sales: $67,500,000

Of course, all of these are gross estimates, and their expenses must be massive, but their net profits for 2014 will still probably blow all other boy bands away. This April they were estimated to be worth a total of about $38 million together. Not bad for a group of young men under the age of 22 (at the time of this was published!) Niall, Harry, Zayn, Liam, and Louis didn’t even know each other before they all separately auditioned for UK’s The X Factor. Simon Cowell suggested that they get together to form a boy band, and they’ve been taking over the world ever since even though they didn’t actually win the competition. (Anyone remember Matt Cardle?)

One Direction signed to Simon Cowell’s label Syco Entertainment and Columbia Records. In 2012 they settled a lawsuit with an American band of the same name for an undisclosed amount. Although Simon has been dealing with some personal baby daddy drama, he was all business last weekend when he attended a One Direction concert in Las Vegas.
