New York, NY (August 1, 2013) – Former “Teen Mom” and fan-favorite Maci Bookout and 5-year-old son Bentley will return to MTV for a one-hour special called “Being Maci” on Sunday, August 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Viewers will get a glimpse inside Maci’s life post “Teen Mom,” as she and her friends face all the drama that comes with being 21 years-old, and Maci continues to balance that part of her life with the responsibilities that come with raising Bentley. Additionally, MTV will air a marathon of the groundbreaking series “16 and Pregnant” beginning Sunday, August 18 at 12 p.m. ET/PT, leading up to the special. The marathon will include episodes from season four when viewers were first introduced to the stories of “Teen Mom 3” mothers: Alex, Briana, Katie and Mackenzie. “Teen Mom 3” premieres with two back-to-back episodes on Monday, August 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT and each week Maci will host an online after show where she will sit down with the four new moms for exclusive interviews on MTV.com.

In the special, Maci is now living in a house with Bentley and her two best friends in Chattanooga, Tennessee where the town is small, but the drama is big. Known for being the responsible one in the group, Maci is the go-to friend for advice on everything from hookups, to finishing college, to getting over a Twitter fight. Within the group of 20-something Southerners, the situations are sometimes embarrassing, and almost always hilarious. But, with Bentley in tow, the crew is reminded that there are more important things in life, and Maci continues to learn just how hard it is to balance being a 21-year-old with the responsibilities that come with being a mother. However, when Bentley’s father Ryan takes him for the weekend, Maci is finally able to let loose and enjoy a night out with her friends. Meanwhile at Ryan’s house, on-and-off girlfriend Dalis leaves for the weekend on bad terms with Ryan due to trust issues that constantly threaten their relationship. While Dalis is out of town, Ryan runs into Maci and the former couple finds themselves flirting, and in familiar territory. With so much history, they agree to meet up again for a heart to heart about the possibility of being together someday.

As a former MTV “Teen Mom,” Maci spent four years exposing young people to the realities of teen pregnancy. Now she’ll sit down each week with the “Teen Mom 3” girls in exclusive online after shows on MTV.com where she will help them tell their stories. The emotionally-charged docu-series “Teen Mom 3” will premiere with two back-to-back episodes on Monday, August 26 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Viewers first met “Teen Mom 3” cast members Alex, Briana, Katie and Mackenzie during season four of the groundbreaking series “16 and Pregnant,” where they captivated audiences as they faced the intense realities that come with being pregnant and having a baby at a young age. The new series chronicles their lives as they do their best to raise their children while struggling with increasingly difficult relationships, the pressures of balancing school and work, and trying to maintain a semblance of their teenage years.

The teen birth rate in the U.S. declined 25 percent between 2007 and 2011. Despite the steep decline in teen birth rates, more than 700,000 teenage girls in the U.S. still become pregnant each year and one out of every ten children in the U.S. is born to a teenage mother. The vast majority of these pregnancies are unintended, and one quarter of all teen moms have a second child within two years. In a recent poll by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, 77 percent of teens age 12-19 that have seen “16 and Pregnant” and “Teen Mom” say the shows “help teens better understand the challenges of pregnancy and parenting.”

Since its launch in 2009, “16 and Pregnant” and the “Teen Mom” franchise has captivated millions of viewers with its honest depiction of the lives of pregnant teens. Season four of “16 and Pregnant” averaged 1.5 million viewers per episode, a +20 percent increase from the first season. “Teen Mom” followed four young mothers from the first season of “16 and Pregnant,” while “Teen Mom 2” went inside the lives of a new group of teen moms — Chelsea, Jenelle, Kailyn and Leah. Both series have aired four seasons, averaging 3 million total viewers per episode. In addition to its ratings success, the franchise has been recognized by numerous organizations** as one of the most positive and influential sources of information on teen pregnancy, which is currently at the lowest rate ever recorded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

More information about sexual health issues affecting young people, including unintended pregnancy, is available at www.itsyoursexlife.com, a public information resource developed by MTV and the Kaiser Family Foundation. The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy is working with the show to provide additional information.

MTV.com will also offer an After Show with the moms hosted by Maci Bookout of Teen Mom. “Teen Mom 3” will debut internationally on MTV channels around the world in February 2014.
