Holy ebony and ivory Batman! Former Chicago Cubs slugger and infamous steroid user Sammy Sosa was photographed November 4th at the 2009 Person Of The Year Honoring Juan Gabriel event looking a bit paler than usual, prompting speculation that he is bleaching his skin. Here is a before picture taken in 2003 for comparison:
The Chicago Tribune talked to a former Cubs employee and friend of Sammy Sosa:
“He’s not trying to be Michael Jackson,” said former Cubs employee Rebecca Polihronis, who talks frequently with Sosa.
Sosa was photographed recently during an appearance at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
“He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin,” Polihronis said. “Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of (the photo appearance) is just the lighting.
Just the lighting? I dunno. The picture from the November 4th event at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas includes Sammy’s lovely wife Sonia, who appears to have a similar skin tone. Here is a photo of the couple from 2003:
Either Sammy is busted for attempting to be trans-racial or else there is certainly a lawsuit pending against whoever it is “treating” his skin!
UPDATE 11/12/09 – This just in from NPR:
“It’s a bleaching cream that I apply before going to bed and whitens my skin some,” he said on Primer Impacto, a program on the Spanish-language network Univision.
Sosa, who also wears colored contacts, said he uses the cream as a moisturizer and is in discussions to market it.
