Each show selected for the map is set in its respective state. For example, The Office was set in and closely tied to Scranton, Pennsylvania. Likewise, it’s hard to imagine The Sopranos without New Jersey.
Some Reddit users have questioned why certain shows were selected over others. (Our Canadian friend clearly believed That 70s Show was more influential in Wisconsin than fellow state-based shows Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley.) Nonetheless, the map is an interesting way to look at how television portrayals affect our perceptions of different states.
