Has Katy Perry finally tamed John Mayer? The singer gushes over his girlfriend during live performance

John Mayer and Katy Perry on Halloween

John Mayer and Katy Perry started up their romance nearly a year ago and while they briefly split earlier this year, they are back on and seem to be doing better than ever. On Saturday, John kicked of his Born & Raised tour in Milwaukee and while on stage, he gushed about his pop star girlfriend.

In August of 2012, John underwent surgery on his throat and while his relationship with Katy was new at the time, she made it a point to be by his side. John was pleasantly surprised and during Saturday night’s show, he told fans that she was “more incredible then I ever thought.”

Prior to the surgery, John worried that he wouldn’t be able to talk to this girl that he just met because of the affects of the surgery, but once it was over, she stepped up and did what she could to make his every day life more manageable until his voice returned.

“She would order for me. I would whisper in her ear and she would order for me and she would tell the waiter, ‘It’s nice to meet you, he says.’ We did a lot of whispering.”

While he was in Montana, John and Katy had trouble communicating because of bad cell phone service and bad internet connection, but still, Katy remained “so patient” and dedicated to getting to know the new man in her life.

After telling the heartwarming story, John dedicated a new song to Katy who he says is his “face to call home.”

Below are a few of the lyrics to John’s song about Katy, “A Face To Call Home:”

I can’t believe a month is all it’s been
You know my paper heart
The one I filled with pencil marks
I think I might have gone and inked you in

We build a yard with a garden in the middle of it
It aint much but its a start
You got me swaying right along to the song in your heart
And a face to call home
