Lil Wayne in a coma in critical condition

Rapper Lil Wayne has reportedly been placed in an induced coma after he was found unconscious by his bodyguard on Wednesday.

According to TMZ, the 30-year-old rapper was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A. Tuesday night after having multiple seizures while shooting a music video for Nicki Minaj’s new single, “High School.” He was released Wednesday, but hours later one of his bodyguards found him unconscious on the floor. Lil Wayne was then rushed to the hospital but did not stabilize; he has been placed in an induced coma and is in the ICU.

TMZ reports, “We’re told several people are at Wayne’s bedside crying, and a number of rap artists and family members are on the way.  Sources say the scene is violent as Wayne shakes uncontrollably.” TMZ also says, “Wayne’s mother is currently on a plane flying to Los Angeles — and we’re told all major decisions about Wayne’s health (including the decision to discontinue life support) will not be made until she arrives.”

Sources tell the site that doctors found high amounts of codeine in Lil Wayne’s system, leading to speculation that he may have gone on a Sizzurp binge not long after being released from the hospital on Wednesday. His stomach reportedly had to be pumped three times in an attempt to cleanse his body of the drugs.

Lil Wayne suffered two seizures last October and was reportedly prescribed seizure medication.

UPDATE - Members of Lil Wayne’s YMCMB team are denying the TMZ reports, including TMZ’s earlier claim (since removed) that Lil Wayne was preparing to receive his last rites.

Lil Wayne himself (or someone on his account) just tweeted, “I’m good everybody. Thx for the prayers and love.”

From Mack Maine (president of Wayne’s record label Young Money):

Wayne is alive and well! We watching the Syracuse game…thanks for the prayers and concern..he will update you all soon. #love
